The role:

We are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to join our Subscription Cancellation team, which will be a new high-impact, cross-functional engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for the growth and success of your engineers, the technical integrity of your services, and the consistent delivery of product milestones that drive value for our members.

As a Senior EM, you are more than a technical lead; you are a strategic partner to Product and Design. You will navigate ambiguity, manage complex dependencies across the organization, and foster a culture of ownership and high performance. You will ensure your team is building scalable, "bank-grade" systems while maintaining the agility of a tech-first startup.

What you’ll do: 

  • Recruit, onboard, and develop a diverse team of engineers while providing regular feedback and building clear career growth plans.
  • Own the execution roadmap for your team, driving the agile process and ensuring high-quality software is shipped predictably.
  • Provide architectural oversight, lead design reviews, and help the team balance feature development with technical debt.
  • Collaborate deeply with Product Managers and Designers to define the team’s vision and translate business goals into technical milestones.
  • Champion a "you build it, you run it" culture, taking responsibility for the uptime, security, and observability of your team’s production environment.
  • Contribute to the broader Engineering leadership team by refining hiring practices, engineering standards, and organizational culture.

What you’ll need:

  • 5+ years of experience directly managing software engineering teams in a fast-paced environment, including experience managing Senior and Staff-level contributors.
  • 8+ years of total software engineering experience with a deep understanding of backend microservices and modern frontend frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, cloud-native architecture (AWS), and data consistency in high-concurrency environments.
  • A proven track record of leading teams that build and scale successful user-facing products.
  • Exceptional ability to communicate technical complexity to non-technical stakeholders and influence across different departments.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. 

Nice to have:

  • Experience integrating Large Language Models (LLM) into products
  • Experience in FinTech or other highly regulated industries where compliance and auditability are paramount.Experience leading teams through organizational scaling or significant architectural migrations.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD best practices, automated testing strategies, and containerization.
  • A passion for financial literacy and helping members achieve financial independence.

 

Compensation and Benefits
The base pay range for this role is listed below. Final base pay offer will be determined based on individual factors such as the candidate’s experience, skills, and location.
