At Fresh Prints, we’re early adopters through and through. But - like all of society - we’re at a crucial inflection point in our team’s approach. Some are diving head first into iterating through learning how to get the most out of AI. Others have been slower to embrace it.
We’re looking for confident leaders who want to shape our engineering team into one that both 1) uses AI to build better and faster and 2) develops customer-facing AI for our applications.
To be a good fit, you need to be hands on and ready to pair program, teach, and performance manage your way to a strong team of AI-first developers. It won’t be enough to command that they use Cursor.
You will need to be comfortable with the fact that our whole Tech team moves quickly, and that we are actively reassessing what each role is capable of.
Our Product Designers no longer create Figma files, but instead build functional front end prototypes via Cursor that they then hand off. Our Product Managers are also in the middle of learning how to become more technical contributors by developing internal tools and POCs.
We’re looking for Engineering leaders who are excited by this opportunity to make the average engineer’s role a lot more interesting. As AI and our team’s ability to use it continues to improve, engineering will no longer include much low level “building” and will instead require much higher level technical problem solving.
Think systems-level issues, not just syntax.
How do we take all that we describe above and make sure it translates into production grade applications? How do we build a resilient architecture to ensure performance, scalability, and agility? How do we do all of that without slowing everyone else down?
Those are questions we’ll look to you to answer.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead a team of engineers through our shared vision for Tech at Fresh Prints
- Define and execute the most technical aspects of an AI-first Tech team
- Build an engineering culture that embraces AI
- Partner with other leadership to make sure the AI-first versions of Product, Design, and Engineering work well together
- Help transform the engineering team into one that can execute on said vision
- Recruit, develop, and retain top engineering talent
- Be a hands on teacher committed to developing a team of confident engineers
- Performance manage engineers to a clearly defined high standard that holds them accountable for delivering high quality tech on time
- Architect for speed, scale, and stability
- Set and uphold high standards for code quality, system design, observeability, and security without slowing down iteration and innovation
- Establish and maintain technical governance: architecture reviews, CI/CD best practice, and documentation standards
- Make sure our codebase remains performant, maintainable, and secure
- Be a problem solver and a coach at the same time
- Actively pair program to get through the hardest roadblocks
- Review code to make sure engineers improve in their approach
- Dive in and get your hands dirty and teach along the way, helping each engineer grow into a world class talent
REQUIREMENTS
- 6+ years of progressive engineering experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership role
- Deep understanding of modern web architecture (i.e. React/Next.js, Node.js, MYSQL, AWS, Docker etc)
- Experience managing CI/CD pipelines, observability, and performance at scale
- Passion for AI-assisted development and the future of software creation
- Proven success scaling teams, systems, and processes at a fast-moving company
- A lot for coaching and developing people
- Low ego, high curiosity, and a bias towards experimentation and action
