Major Duties:

  • The United States Space Force (USSF) in Huntsville, AL is searching for a Senior Engineer, SYD 89/Golden Dome (NH-0801-03, GS-12/13 Equivalent). Description: For more than 30 years American has been trying to build a missile defense shield in space. The time to deliver it is now. Unlike previous attempts at delivering Space Based Interceptors, we have the launch and commercial space infrastructure to deliver a missile defense shield that will work at a price the that DOD can afford. The Space Based Interceptor Engineer will work directly for the Engineer lead and lead a team of the best and brightest engineers to deliver spaced based interceptors. Tasks include collaborating with senior leaders in all agencies that deal with missile defense, big data, acritical intelligence and machine learning. Works with Contractors, Chief Engineer, and SPM to develop Exo, Endo, HGV, and Midcourse of integrated missile interceptors. Key challenges, stressing g-loads, thermal environment and terminal guidance. Ample opportunities for professional meetings and conferences. Additional responsibilities include building ICDs, technical baselines, attending technical exchange meetings, and building government reference architecture. Ideal Candidate: For the 0801 General Engineering Series, Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. Key Skills and Abilities: 1. Knowledge of processes and procedures related to program management and strategic planning activities needed to execute projects and/or studies within established financial and time constraints. 2. Ability to encourage new ideas and innovations; manage human, financial and information resources strategically and build coalitions to achieve common goals. 3. Skill in working with customers to assess needs, provide assistance, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations 4. Ability to persuade others to accept recommendations, work toward an agreement, and negotiate mutually acceptable solutions. 5. Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. 6. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and determine resource requirements; determine goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinate with other organizations; monitor progress, and evaluate outcomes. 7. Ability to identify problems and use sound judgment and decisions to generate and evaluate alternatives and make recommendations
