Job Description:

Position Summary


We are seeking an experienced Senior Test Equipment & Hardware Engineer to support outsourced semiconductor manufacturing (OSAT) operations and internal factories by managing Automated Test Equipment (ATE), test hardware, wafer probe solutions, final test platforms, and backend scan & pack tooling.
This role will be responsible for test equipment readiness, hardware standardization, supplier coordination, asset transfers, procurement execution, technical project management, and sustaining engineering support across global subcontractor sites.


The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge in Final Test, Wafer Probe Test, Backend Scan & Pack processes, hardware design, ATE platforms, supplier management, and cross-functional project leadership.

Key Responsibilities
Test Equipment & Hardware Management

  • Coordinate and maintain test equipment and test hardware across OSAT and internal manufacturing sites.
  • Ensure equipment readiness, uptime, calibration compliance, and preventive maintenance execution.
  • Support equipment transfers between sites including validation, buyoff, installation, and documentation control.
  • Maintain hardware database integrity including testers, handlers, probers, load boards, sockets, probe cards, cables, and spare parts.
  • Perform asset audits, inventory reconciliation, and equipment utilization reviews.

Engineering & Technical Support

  • Design circuits and customized production tooling for IC final test, wafer probe, and module testing based on existing Microchip standards.
  • Provide engineering support for ATE platforms, handlers, probers, and interface hardware.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and hardware issues to minimize downtime and production interruptions.
  • Review and interpret technical documentation, schematics, BOMs, drawings, and specifications.
  • Standardize hardware designs, suppliers, and maintenance processes globally.

Project Management

  • Lead assigned engineering projects from concept to production release within committed timeline.
  • Manage internal resources including CAD, Mechanical Engineering, Assembly Lab, and technicians.
  • Coordinate multi-site collaborative projects and synchronize milestones with stakeholders.
  • Communicate project status, risks, issues, and recovery plans to management and customers.
  • Support new product transfer, capacity expansion, internalization, and second-site qualification projects.

Supplier & Procurement Management

  • Coordinate new hardware requests, PR/PO submission, quotations, supplier lead time, and delivery closure.
  • Work closely with Supply Chain, Finance, and Receiving teams to ensure timely delivery and payment processing.
  • Liaise with external suppliers for outsourced tooling such as probe cards, load boards, docking kits, and handlers.
  • Drive supplier quality, cost reduction, standardization, and turnaround-time improvements.

Reporting & Administrative Support

  • Prepare management reports, dashboards, presentations, and executive summaries.
  • Maintain organized filing systems, documentation archives, and engineering records.
  • Organize technical meetings, reviews, and supplier discussions.
  • Collect, analyze, and present data for decision-making.

Requirements/Qualifications:

Required Technical Knowledge
Manufacturing Process Knowledge

  • Final Test operations
  • Wafer Probe Test / CP Test
  • Backend Scan & Pack processes
  • High-volume semiconductor manufacturing environment
  • OSAT operations and subcontractor management

Equipment / Hardware Knowledge

  • ATE testers (Advantest, Teradyne, Nextest, LTX or equivalent)
  • Handlers, probers, scan & pack equipment
  • Load boards, sockets, probe cards, interface hardware
  • Electronic circuit design and debug
  • Mechanical tooling concepts

Software / Systems

  • Microsoft 360, Autocad or other design applications
  • Database systems / asset tracking systems
  • ERP systems (PR/PO workflow preferred)
  • Basic CAD tools preferred

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline from a Malaysia Government accredited university.
  • Minimum 8 years experience in semiconductor high-volume manufacturing.
  • Minimum 5 years direct experience in ATE, test equipment, and test hardware engineering.
