FLSmidth

Senior Engineer

Chennai (MIN) Full time

Do you want to make a real impact and help drive a more sustainable future?

At FLS, our MissionZero ambition is focused on enabling zero-emissions mining. Through innovation, engineering excellence, and deep industry expertise, we help our customers produce the materials needed for the world’s progress—responsibly and efficiently.

We’re looking for a curious, skilled, and driven engineer to join our global Mining Products Engineering Department. If you enjoy solving complex design challenges, developing tooling that shapes high-performance consumables, and contributing to global product innovation, this role is for you.

About the Team

As part of our Screens & Feeders Consumables Engineering group, you will specialise in design engineering and tooling development for injection-moulded rubber and open-cast polyurethane consumables used across FLS’s mining product lines.

This is a hands-on, technically rich role with strong collaboration across global engineering, manufacturing, R&D, and product line teams.

Your Responsibilities

  • Interpret and apply engineering drawings, specifications, and material requirements for rubber screening media, polyurethane screening panels, rubber moulds, and polyurethane panel tooling.

  • Execute detailed design work in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and Enovia, producing accurate layouts, manufacturing drawings, and specialised tooling/mould designs.

  • Develop complete tooling packages for injection moulding, and open-cast polyurethane moulding, including 3D models, machining files, and BOMs.

  • Translate product concepts into complete technical drawings and production documentation.

  • Ensure all designs meet manufacturability, tolerance, curing, and shrinkage requirements for rubber and polyurethane.

  • Collaborate directly with manufacturing teams to support tooling trials, process optimisation, and continuous improvement.

  • Optimise existing mould designs based on wear performance, production challenges, or field feedback.

  • Maintain CAD libraries, revision controls, and tooling databases to ensure accuracy and traceability.

  • Stay updated on advances in moulding technology, materials, and engineering tools to drive innovation.

  • Identify design or manufacturing risks early and recommend robust solutions to improve tooling life and product quality.

  • Contribute to the development and improvement of global tooling and CAD standards.

What You Bring

Must-Have Experience (Non-Negotiable)

  • Direct, hands-on experience designing Rubber or Polyurethane tooling/moulds—including injection moulds, or open-cast polyurethane tooling.
Candidates without rubber or polyurethane experience will not be considered.

Additional Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, or equivalent.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in design engineering within consumables, mining, heavy industrial, or similar manufacturing environments.

  • Proficiency with:

    • SolidWorks (3D modelling & drafting)

    • AutoCAD (2D detailed drawings)

    • Enovia (PLM – Web & Windows clients)

    • Ansys or similar for simulation/analysis

  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals, rubber and polyurethane behaviour, moulding processes, and manufacturing workflows.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively across global teams.

  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.

  • High attention to detail, quality, and continuous improvement.
