Team Overview and Job Responsibilities

Perform Design and Process Engineering tasks and manage New Product Development (Outside Plant), Technology Transfer and DTC Cost Reduction projects to completion. Tasks include creation of detailed product designs using theoretical calculations, material selections (with Materials Technology Group), cost estimates working with design engineering team, definition of process setups/equipment, manufacturing of prototypes, formulation of Qualification plans, interpretation of test results, and creation/presentation of Design and Qualification Reviews, implementation of new product/design in production.   Technology transfer projects involve working with other Prysmian factories to replicate manufacture of products in the Jackson plant.

Who are we looking for?

  • Responsible for the development or technology transfer, qualification and implementation of new/improved products and cost reduction projects as defined in the Telecom Product Roadmap and DTC Programs.
  • Provide Application Engineering support for New Product Development, including development and refinement of the tools and accessories associated with optical fiber cables working with the Applications team..
  • Modification/creation of Product Design Documents and Process Setups necessary to manufacture new products in production. Provide additional information to design engineering Team to create cable design analysis for new designs.
  • Participate in day-to-day resolution of product performance / applications questions (Marketing & Quality) and Quality Notifications (Operations).
  • Provide analysis of competitors’ products (with the Materials Technology Group).
  • Write and present papers to Industry forums such as IWCS.
  • Submit Invention Disclosures for innovative solutions.
  • Ensure all product meets requirements as defined by Industry specifications.
  • Comply with all applicable safety procedures and ISO14001 EMS guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or a member of management. 

Qualifications and Education 

  • Minimum of Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Physics – Required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of Product and Process Development in a manufacturing environment. Required
  • Must have a passion for supporting products that are cost effective and conducive to business success. 
  • Proficient using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Pro-E.
  • Previous manufacturing experience working in cross-functional teams. 
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and lead the implementation of those into a manufacturing environment.
  • Must have the ability to apply first principle problem solving to implement robust manufacturing solutions.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, inter-personal skills, and be a team player.

Preferred:  

  • Five or more years of experience with extrusion processes for fiber cable.
  • Five or more years of product and process engineering experience in fiber cable products.
