As the Senior Employee Relations Advisor, you will act as a subject matter expert providing advanced guidance and support across a broad range of employee relations matters. In this role you play a key part in mitigating risk, managing legal claims, interpreting policies, and ensuring HR compliance through close partnership with HR Business Partners, Labour Relations, Legal, and business leaders.
As the Senior Advisor you will manage employee concerns, prepares documentation, leads legal claim activities, and escalates high-risk matters to the Manager, Employee Relations for coordination with external counsel. By building strong relationships with leaders and HR teams, the role fosters a positive, productive, and compliant workplace culture while ensuring the consistent application of employee relations policies and practices.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Partner with LR, HRBPs, and leadership to manage workforce risks and provide ER guidance
- Advise on documentation, processes, and best practices for legal claims; escalate complex issues
- Support engagement with external counsel by preparing case materials and coordinating information flow
- Track legal claims and deliver regular reporting in collaboration with Manager, ER
- Ensure compliance with labour laws, regulations, and internal policies across the organization
- Lead development, interpretation, and updates of HR policies, templates, and ER programs
- Maintain HR risk registers and support enterprise risk reporting with VP, LR & ER
- Monitor legislative changes; conduct regular scans and recommend updates to policies and practices
- Provide ER support and training to leaders on issues like discipline, performance, accommodation, and workplace conflict
Qualifications:
- 6+ years’ experience in a senior Employee Relations role, with in depth knowledge of employment laws and regulations
- Bachelor’s degree in law or Juris Doctor required
- Bachelor’s degree or post-secondary focus on HR, Labour Relations, or Business is an asset
- Strong knowledge of employment laws, regulations, and best practices
- Experience supporting multi-jurisdictional operations (Canada and U.S.)
- In-depth understanding of regional legal and compliance differences
- Foundational legal training in employment standards and labour relations
- Knowledge of human rights and anti-discrimination legislation
- Subject matter expertise in Employee Relations claims management
- Experience developing and applying HR policies
- Proven ability to advise on complex ER and compliance matters
Working Conditions:
- Hybrid role, working 3 days per week in the office
- Occasional travel to other office locations required
Compensation
$103,950 to $140,000 annual
This is the expected base pay range for this role. Individual base pay will be determined based on a variety of factors including experience, knowledge, skills, education and location.
