Job Summary

TYLin is seeking a Senior Power Engineer to join our growing Rail + Transit practice in New York. In this senior-level role, you will bring approximately 10 years of hands-on technical experience in traction power and medium-voltage electrical systems along with the judgment, mentorship, and leadership skills that come from delivering complex transit infrastructure projects.

You will serve as a trusted technical resource on MTA and other New York–area rail transit projects, providing direction to junior engineers, guiding multidisciplinary design efforts, and setting the standard for quality, collaboration, and professionalism across the team. What You’ll Do:

  • Lead and coordinate capital projects involving traction power and medium-voltage systems for major New York–area transit agencies.

  • Prepare and oversee electrical design packages, ensuring compliance with client standards, MTA design criteria, and all applicable building and energy codes.

  • Drive the design, construction, testing, and commissioning of medium-voltage power systems in complex transit environments, prioritizing safety, reliability, and system resiliency.

  • Lead cutover planning and brownfield integration efforts, ensuring safe and seamless modifications to existing power infrastructure.

  • Develop and manage preventative maintenance programs for traction power equipment, setting performance targets and updating standards as systems evolve.

  • Manage construction and professional services contracts, including scope definition, technical oversight, and coordination with consultants and contractors.

  • Deliver high-quality electrification design and consulting services, including calculations, system studies, and technical specifications.

  • Provide senior-level technical support for procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning activities.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams - Civil, Structural, Systems, Communications, Project Controls, and more, to deliver integrated project solutions.

  • Lead cost estimating, work planning, scheduling, and forecasting for power engineering tasks.

  • Mentor, coach, and develop junior engineers, providing guidance that builds confidence, strengthens skills, and encourages professional growth.

  • Model strong communication, thoughtful leadership, and a commitment to technical excellence across all project work.

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Approximately 10 years of experience in electrification detailed design, construction, project management, or design consulting.

  • PE license required.

  • Direct experience working on Rail + Transit projects; MTA project experience is a significant advantage.

  • Strong knowledge of medium-voltage design, traction power systems, load flow, and fault current analysis.

  • Proficiency with design tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation; familiarity with Revit, AECOsim, Agi32, and SKM Power Tools preferred.

  • Knowledge of vehicle electrification systems is an asset.

  • Strong understanding of applicable local, state, and national electrical codes.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical report and specification writing.

  • Proven ability to lead by example, prioritize effectively, and guide teams toward on-time, high-quality project delivery.

Additional Information

TYLin is committed to pay equity. As part of that commitment, we have provided the base compensation range of $100,000 - $150,000 annually for this position and local market.
