Job Description

The Senior Electrical Engineer provides Maintenance and Engineering functional leadership for High and Low Voltage Electrical Assets to Alcoa's North American Operation’s Smelters, Ports and Carbon Plant. This position reports directly to the Regional Asset Management Hub Director, North America.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in delivering improvements to all aspects of Alcoa’s Electrical equipment and systems via the transfer of best equipment, operating, engineering and maintenance practices

  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME) technical support for Alcoa’s Electrical equipment and systems to ensure optimal asset availability to support continuous operations

  • Provide Electrical SME input to the Asset Management Capital annual and long-term planning process for Electrical equipment and systems and decarbonisation projects

  • Provide leadership and support for implementation of the Asset Management target state through the leadership of communities of Best Practice, setting objectives for these teams and leading problem solving/solution development activities to support the target state

  • Provide leadership and support in Electrical Safety policies and initiatives including High Voltage, Low Voltage, Arc Flash and Potroom DC systems.

  • Participate in the development of Reliability and Maintenance strategies for electrical equipment and systems with Reliability, Engineering and Maintenance Managers/Engineers within both the Asset Management functional groups and at each of Alcoa’s facilities

  • Work closely with Reliability and Engineering Systems functional teams to provide expert-level Maintenance and Engineering technical knowledge, skills and experience to support best practice application of these capabilities to all aspects of asset management – in particular for the management of high voltage assets across smelter switchyards and substations but also inclusive of low voltage

  • Conduct Electrical Asset Integrity Assessments as part of the Asset Management Electrical Systems SME team, working with locations to identify, classify and develop mitigation strategies and solutions to identified risks

  • Participate in the Asset Management engineering and maintenance help chain to provide problem solving and troubleshooting service to locations for critical events

  • Build relationships that deliver the support and engagement of plant Electrical teams in executing Maintenance and Engineering objectives.

  • Establish, maintain and manage strategic equipment supplier and engineering service provider relationships

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree: Electrical Engineering

  • Min 10 years’ experience as an Electrical Engineer

  • Min 5 years’ experience in an Electrical Engineering Leadership role.

  • High Voltage experience (highly desirable);

  • Smelting engineering experience (highly desirable);

  • High level of written and verbal skills in English / French (highly desirable);

  • Post Grad Degree: Master’s in engineering, Management or related area (desirable).

  • Flexibility for travel to Locations and/or FATs when required up to 20-25%.
