Senior Electrical Engineer

FORT Robotics is currently seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer to be a part of an exciting industry and help define the future of safety and security for intelligent and autonomous machines. The hardware team is critical to this mission, designing the core technology, including safety controllers and other electronic sub-systems, that powers our solutions.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design new FORT hardware products using complex electronic sub-systems, multiple independent processors, and a variety of external interfaces
  • Design of test fixtures to enable development and test automation
  • Design for EMI/ESD sensitive environments, extreme temperature and vibration
  • Maintenance of existing designs (cost reduction, part obsolescence)
  • Schematic capture and PCB layout of designs
  • Work with cloud based designs and component library tools
  • Mentor junior engineers or interns/co-ops on PCB layout and schematic capture
  • Work closely with mechanical engineers and firmware engineers to design the product and troubleshoot problems
  • Create and execute test plans and complex lab testing setups to verify and validate design performance (ESD/EMC/EMI testing)
  • Create or update design requirements and architecture documentation
  • Work closely with technical writing staff to generate user-facing product specifications
  • Work with customer support staff to troubleshoot field issues

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Needed
    • Minimum BS in Electrical/Computer Engineering
    • 7+ years experience in embedded systems design (Principal with 12 - 15 years?)
    • Design for embedded ARM platforms
    • Design and refinement of SMPS for battery powered electronics
    • Working knowledge of common data busses (UART, USB, I2C, SPI, CAN)
    • Highly experienced using Altium Designer, up to 8-layer board designs (3+ years experience)
    • LTSpice simulation experience
    • Worst case analysis of circuits
    • Experience participating in FMEA, FMEDA or risk analysis processes for a regulated product
    • Experience working directly with contract manufacturers and PCB vendors
    • Comfortable working in a startup environment
    • Experience with compliance and regulatory requirements including wireless and safety in North America and Europe

  • Preferred
    • Firmware development in C
    • Experience designing high speed data busses including DDR3 and eMMC
    • Experience with wireless technology (BLE, WiFi, ISM band, etc)
    • Python for use in test automation, data analysis or embedded device interaction
    • Functional safety (ISO26262 and/or IEC61508) or work prior work in a related industry
    • Rework of surface mount components
    • Experience working on DoD related projects
    • IPC Certified Interconnect Designer (CID/CID+)
