SUMMARY/JOB PURPOSE:
The Senior Director of Strategic Supplier Relationships & Oversight is responsible for the development of an effective relationship and oversight model with multiple Suppliers across Product Development and Medical Affairs in support of the Exelixis portfolio. This role is a key partner with our Strategic Sourcing and Procurement team and other functional groups. This leader optimizes the best governance approach, including the oversight of quality performance metrics, escalation and resolution of delivery and quality issues across all PDMA Suppliers for Exelixis. This role is expected to lead, inspire, and develop a high-performing team of Supplier Relationship professionals that work to ensure best in class metrics, market intelligence and benchmarking is in place. This Leader assesses vendor performance, the need to drive improvements across the supplier relationship landscape and innovates and influences our strategic direction with our suppliers. This role serves as a point of escalation for our internal and external stakeholders and identifies and champions opportunities for improvement, new ways of working and drives the necessary change in overseeing the relationship with our Suppliers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Partner with PDMA functional departments and SSP to help define, implement and continually improve outsourcing strategies, tactics and operations with out Strategic Suppliers.
- Set a Strategic vision, direction, and expectations for our Supplier Relationships. This includes process improvement strategies, optimized ways of working, and partner excellence models.
- Responsible for ensuring high quality design and execution of the processes related to the Supplier Relationship and Quality Oversight.
- Understand how the industry is moving and use that insight to identify and deliver business-ready solutions.
- Address and problem- solve systemic issues occurring in the supplier relationship and bring appropriate awareness and drive resolutions and improvements and integrate the lessons learned.
- Build and maintain Supplier relationships with internal and external key business partners.
- Ensure goals, objectives and results are monitored, celebrated, or raised at relevant governance forums for support.
- Serve as a key liaison for SSP, legal and finance on Supplier Relationship MSAs and work orders when needed.
- Act as a trusted business advisor, thought partner and leader on key initiatives as needed.
- Establish, document, track, and report vendor KPIs and KQIs.
- Develop and implement joint Exelixis/Supplier issue escalation and resolution communication plans, pathways, and trackers.
- Triage, resolve and/or escalate vendor relationship, performance, quality and/or other issues received from internal customers and/or suppliers.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage multiple straightforward reports.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in related development and a minimum of 15 years of related experience; or,
- Master’s degree in related discipline and a minimum of 13 years of related experience; or,
- Doctoral degree in related discipline and a minimum of 12 years of related experience; or,
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience/The Ideal for Successful Entry into Job:
- Typically requires a minimum of 15 years of related experience and/or combination of education/training and experience.
- Experience in biotech/pharmaceutical industry required.
- Experience in biotech/pharmaceutical industry: CROs, R&D outsourcing, purchasing or procurement roles required.
Minimum Level Of Job-Related Experience is Required:
- Evidence of leadership and management skills of a team at a senior level in a relevant industry role involving strong engagement with external suppliers.
- Current understanding of the relevant external scientific, legal, and regulatory environment.
- Prior experience leading a team

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The base pay range for this position is $238,500 - $339,500 annually. The base pay range may take into account the candidate’s geographic region, which will adjust the pay depending on the specific work location. The base pay offered will take into account the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and internal equity, among other factors.
