Scope
This Sr. Director RWE/Epidemiology role will assume a leadership and global role within the Vaccines Real-World Evidence (RWE) and Epidemiology group and serve as team lead for the C.diff, Meningococcal and Vector Borne Team. The senior director will lead a team of scientists conducting epidemiologic studies and generating real-world evidence on disease burden, vaccine effectiveness, and vaccine impact to support C.diff, Meningococcal, and Vector Borne Vaccines. The incumbent must operate as both a subject matter expert in RWE and epidemiology, as well as strategic thought partner and collaborator with TA Medical colleagues, TA Research Units, and the CMO organization (Regulatory, Safety, DS&A, etc.). Evidence generated from these studies will be used to inform vaccine recommendations, utilization and development and licensure of pipeline vaccines.
This is a high-level position that requires skill and experience with field epidemiology, infectious disease surveillance, and database studies. In addition to leading the C.diff, Meningococcal and Vector Borne RWE/Epi team, the role will involve managing scientific aspects of complicated long-term projects, interacting with external vaccine experts, and integrating within a multi-disciplinary team at Pfizer. This position is part of a newly formed Vaccines RWE/epidemiology team and will work cross-functionally with collaborators spanning Medical teams, Research Units, and the Chief Medical Officer organization (Medical Evidence Development, Regulatory, Safety, Data Sciences & Analytics, etc.) to design, execute, and disseminate results from studies. This role is accountable for the quality, timeliness, efficiency, and strategic value for RWE/Epi deliverables produced by their team. In this role, the incumbent will cultivate innovation, cross-functional collaboration, and identify opportunities for RWE/Epi to increase the value and success of C.diff, Meningococcal and Vector Borne vaccines.

In this role, you will:
- Lead a team of scientists conducting epidemiologic/RWE studies to support C.diff, Meningococcal and Vector Borne Team vaccines.

- Provide subject matter expertise and thought leadership to advance Pfizer’s use of RWE/Epi for regulatory purposes and to develop high-value vaccines.
- Partner with MED Asset Leads to ensure strategic alignment of all C.diff, Meningococcal and Vector Borne vaccine RWE/Epi studies.
- Lead epidemiology studies– both field studies involving primary data collection and secondary analyses of real-world data.
- Author and review study protocols, reports, presentations (internally and at scientific conferences), and peer-reviewed manuscripts.
- Provide input to all aspects of study design (e.g., methodology, protocols, analytic plans) for high priority epidemiologic and other scientific studies of importance for C.diff, Meningococcal and Vector Borne vaccine issues such as Vaccine Technical Committee recommendations, schedules, public payer options.
- Work with internal and external experts in statistics and data analysis to analyze and interpret data from RWE/Epi vaccine studies.
- Be accountable for the collection of epidemiologic and other scientific data necessary for developing vaccine product labels.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree, including a PhD (preferred) in Epidemiology or a related discipline and 7+ years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical, academic and/or medical or public health environments; an MD (preferred) with 5+ years of relevant experience as previously stated; or an MPH or another relevant Master’s degree and 10+ years of relevant experience previously stated.
- Subject matter expertise in vaccinology and infectious disease epidemiology.
- Subject matter expertise in at least one of the following areas: C.diff, Meningococcal or Vector Borne diseases
- Strong epidemiological and statistical methods skills used in observational and non-interventional studies.
- At least 7 years of experience in vaccine-related or vaccine-preventable disease related medical/scientific activities including research, clinical development, epidemiologic, and immunization programs.
- Experience operating within large cross-functional matrices and collaborating with multiple partners.
- Demonstrated effectiveness as a strategic partner to key internal stakeholders.
- Knowledgeable of the external regulatory environment for real-world evidence and maintains awareness of scientific developments in epidemiology, medicine, and technology (e.g. artificial intelligence)
- Strong creative problem-solving and communication skills.
- Proven hands-on experience leading and executing non-interventional (NI) studies from protocol design, delivery of results and clinical study report.
- Experience directing analyses of real-world data, for example using large databases from health care systems containing ICD-10 codes or claims data.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including scientific writing skills as evidence by lead authorship in at least 5 peer-reviewed publications in English.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated strong work ethic, and proven track record of delivering high quality results within timelines.
- Able to review, evaluate, interpret, and present complex data; understand the emerging safety and efficacy profile of Pfizer vaccines.
- Significant cross-functional leadership experience.
- Documented ability to manage projects to completion.
- Documented ability to take a relevant vaccine or vaccine-preventable disease epidemiology project from start to end including conception, design, protocol, analytic plan, implementation, analysis, and reporting and interpretation of results.

Work Location Assignment: This is a hybrid role requiring you to live within commuting distance and work on-site an average of 2.5 days per week or more as needed.
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $230,900.00 to $366,400.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 25.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
