Position Overview:
The Senior Director of Construction is a key leader responsible for overseeing all construction activities for solar PV and energy storage system (ESS) projects. This role drives strategic planning, execution excellence, budget adherence, and on‑schedule delivery across a diverse portfolio. The Senior Director ensures that all construction programs maintain high standards of safety, quality, compliance, and performance—while advancing the company’s growth objectives in renewable energy infrastructure. This role is hybrid and is based out of Boston, MA office.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Planning
Develop and execute multi‑year construction strategies for a growing pipeline of solar and ESS projects.
Translate corporate growth goals into operational construction plans, resource strategies, and performance metrics.
Lead construction input into project feasibility, scheduling, estimating, and constructability reviews.
Project & Portfolio Management
Oversee all phases of EPC and self-perform construction for utility-scale solar and ESS projects, from NTP through COD.
Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and high quality standards.
Manage a national portfolio, providing executive oversight, risk identification, and issue resolution for active projects.
Coordinate closely with Development, Engineering, Procurement, Finance, Commissioning, Asset Management and O&M teams to maintain alignment across the project lifecycle.
Construction Execution & Technical Oversight
Establish and enforce construction standards, specifications, QA/QC programs, and commissioning protocols.
Direct site mobilization, civil works, electrical installation, interconnection, testing, and turnover activities.
Review and approve project execution plans, schedule baselines, risk registers, and safety plans.
Troubleshoot complex technical and field challenges and provide expert-level guidance to project teams.
Vendor, Contractor & Stakeholder Management
Lead selection, negotiation, and performance management of EPC contractors, subcontractors, and construction service providers.
Oversee contract compliance, change orders, claims management, and commercial negotiations.
Foster strong partnerships with utilities, AHJs, landowners, and major equipment suppliers.
Budgeting & Financial Accountability
Own construction budgets across the portfolio, ensuring cost accuracy, forecasting, and financial discipline.
Implement cost‑control strategies, benchmarking, and continuous improvement programs.
Provide executive reporting on financial performance, risks, and mitigations.
Leadership & Team Development
Lead and develop a multidisciplinary construction organization including Project Directors, Construction Managers, Superintendents, and field personnel.
Establish a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
Recruit, train, and retain top construction talent to support corporate expansion.
Safety, Compliance & Quality
Champion a world‑class safety culture across all project sites.
Ensure adherence to OSHA, NEC, IFC, NFPA, NERC, utility requirements, and all applicable codes.
Maintain rigorous QA/QC practices to ensure long-term system reliability.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field required.
Minimum 8 years of progressive construction leadership experience; significant focus on solar PV and/or energy storage projects required.
Proven track record overseeing projects up to 30 MW for solar and ≥50 MW/200 MWh for ESS.
Significant experience managing budgets, EPC contracts, engineering interfaces, and field execution teams.
Additional Qualifications:
PMP certification preferred.
Deep knowledge of solar PV systems, BESS technology, HV/MV electrical systems, and utility interconnection.
Strong competency in project controls, scheduling, budgeting, and risk management.
Outstanding leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to lead multiple large projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Valid driver’s license issued by state of residence and in good standing.
May be required to pass a security clearance investigation.
Travel required to project sites (25%-50%).
Ability to walk long distances over rocky and sloped terrain.
The anticipated base salary range for this role is $193,000 - $280,000 (presented in good faith). In addition to base pay, employees receive a comprehensive benefits package, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off, and may be eligible for performance incentives, bonuses, commissions, or equity, depending on the role.
Actual pay will depend on factors such as internal equity, skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. This range supports our commitment to pay transparency and compliance with applicable laws. Compensation may vary by work location, including remote arrangements.
