We are looking for a Sr. Director, HR Business Partner - Global Operations

Position Summary:
At Illumina, our HR team is highly collaborative, creative, and passionate about the work we do to further our mission through our people practices. We are seeking a professional to join the team in an exciting, high-impact role where they will serve as the Senior HR Business Partner for our Global Operations team. 


We are looking for an HR leader with a track record of building teams and environments that help innovators thrive; focuses on continuous improvement; and creating community and a sense of belonging for global and diverse organizations. The position reports to the VP, Global HR Business Partner and is a key member of the Global Operations Leadership Team. The role is based in San Diego, CA.


This HR Business Partner role is responsible for supporting Global Operations (GO), comprised of over 3,300 employees in the U.S., Europe and Asia. In this role, you will define, develop, and implement global, functional and regional HR initiatives across various client groups. This individual will be the seated business partner for Illumina’s Chief of Operations and his senior staff leading Illumina’s global instrument and consumable manufacturing sites, supply chain, quality, facilities, manufacturing technology, among other groups. The position leads a team of 7 global HR Business Partners with the support of the HR operations and People Support & Care teams and our HR centers of excellence.
 


All About You
 
Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with the business to define organization and people strategies that effectively support the business strategy and deliver results.
  • Provides consultation on organization design, team effectiveness strategies and change management programs.
  • Works closely with the leadership teams in the creation and implementation of organization design and scaling initiatives, including spans/layers optimization. 
  • Ensures effective leadership teams and benches through development, hiring and coaching. 
  • Leads core HR programs for the business including talent reviews, succession planning, performance management, and compensation (merit and equity cycles). 
  • Provides consultation on employee engagement and retention designed to support the desired organizational culture. 
  • Provides advice and guidance on all aspects of performance management including employee development, leadership development and coaching. 
  • Works closely with COEs, site and regional HR leaders in the coordination of initiatives across a wide matrix of functions and geographies.
  • As a member of the Sr. HR Business Partner Team and broader HR function, helps both organizations scale through the advancement of best practices, great execution and building a great place to work employee centric culture.
  • Partner with People Support & Care, Total Rewards, HR operations, Talent Management and Talent Acquisition to deliver effective HR support and programs to the business.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 20 years of progressive HR Business Partnering with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field. A mix of HR COE (such as Talent Management, Employee Relations, etc…) and HRBP experience will be considered.
  • A minimum of 12 years in leading HR teams with demonstrated ability to develop talent
  •  International HR Business Partner experience supporting global manufacturing sites, or operations functions is essential
  • Prior experience supporting C-suite and senior executives 
  • Proven influencing and communication skills with a demonstrated capacity to effectively communicate at all levels and with all disciplines and drive HR practices to meet business needs in a complex, fast-moving environment.
  • Proven experience in successfully developing and leading programs related to talent development, organizational design, team development, organization effectiveness practices as well as in scaling the business
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret complex workforce data and to use advanced analytics to drive strategic HR decision making
  • HR experience in biotech or life sciences manufacturing is preferred

  • Proven ability to understand business imperatives and translate them into KPI-driven HR initiatives.
  • Experience working with Continuous improvement and LEAN both in a manufacturing and an HR setting is preferred.
  • Strong EQ and proven ability to adapt to changing situations, self-awareness and cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to build long-term, trusting relationships with clients and with HR colleagues.
  • Global mindset, cultural sensitivity and a deep understanding of the importance of building diverse and inclusive teams.
  • Confidence to have a strong point of view and express it even if it proves unpopular.
  • Ability to articulate in business terms and connections to business results. 
  • Ability to breakdown and solve complex organizational needs with pragmatism and creativity.
  • Flexible to work across multiple time zones as business demands.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required. Anticipated travel is 10-15% of the time.
  • This is a hybrid role with an expectation of 3-4 days in-office per week and additional on-site presence as needed.

The estimated base salary range for the Senior Director, HRBP - Global Operations (San Diego/Hybrid) role based in the United States of America is: $201,100 - $301,700. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
