Summary 

Reporting directly to the Chief Commercial Officer and participating as a core member of the Commercial Leadership Team (CLT), you will play a pivotal role in shaping the commercial direction of Illumina’s expanding proteomics and multiomics business. The Sr. Director, Global Proteomics Sales will serve as the senior commercial leader responsible for driving Illumina’s global Proteomics sales strategy and performance. In this high‑impact role, you will lead a team of Proteomics Sales Specialists across USCAN, EMEALA, APAC, and Greater China, ensuring cohesive execution, strong regional alignment, and sustained revenue growth across Illumina’s end‑to‑end Proteomics portfolio.

 

You will partner closely with Regional Sales Leadership, Product Management, Marketing, and Executive Leaders to establish Illumina as the leading provider of proteomics, genomics, transcriptomics, and multiomics solutions. This role requires knowledge in proteomics or sequencing workflows. As Illumina accelerates integration of proteomics capabilities—including SomaLogic‑derived technologies—you will be instrumental in driving a unified global sales model, ensuring technology alignment, and enabling seamless customer experiences from research to clinical applications.

 

The ideal candidate brings extensive commercial leadership experience in Life Sciences, Genomics, Biotech, or Healthcare, and has led high‑performing teams within complex, matrixed organizations. This candidate is strategic, data‑driven, collaborative, and energized by building new capabilities, mentoring commercial talent, and driving operational excellence in a dynamic, fast‑growing environment. A Master’s or PhD in Lifesciences is highly desirable.

Sales Strategy & Execution

  • Responsible for leading a global team to achieve or exceed revenue expectations for Illumina’s proteomics portfolio.
  • Define and execute global sales strategies in alignment with global and regional commercial goals.
  • Collaborate with all Illumina departments to formulate strategies that satisfy the key requirements of the business and Illumina's customers.
  • Anticipate, escalate and lead resolution of long-term business problems and challenges.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Build and lead a world-class global sales organization through recruiting, developing and managing a team of specialized sales representatives and managers.
  • Manage resources of sales roles to maximize return for Illumina and provide high quality experience for customers.
  • Collaborate with regional sales leaders to enable broader team success across Illumina’s full portfolio
  • Set clear expectations, provide timely ongoing feedback, ensure recognition of high performance, and address underperformance appropriately and effectively.

Customer Engagement & Market Development

  • Build and maintain relationships with key customers, academic institutions, and Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs)
  • Directly assists with global strategic accounts to facilitate growth and strong ongoing business partnerships.
  • Represents Illumina at industry events to promote our proteomics portfolio
  • Provide Voice of Customer insights to influence portfolio strategy, product development, and marketing

Performance Management & Reporting

  • Ensure accurate pipeline and forecast reporting
  • Analyze sales data to identify trends and opportunities
  • Present performance metrics to internal stakeholders and executive leadership as required

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Act as primary liaison with internal teams including Product Management, R&D, Global Marketing, and the Commercial regions
  • Ensure team collaborates with internal cross-functional partners to build positive relationships and align with company priorities
  • Contribute to annual planning process including revenue targets and operational budgets

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experienced sales leader in genomics, life science, biotech, or similar industry – must be able to drive high-level performance from a commercial team over an extended time period. Ability to drive global business strategies and implement associated tactical plans through team.
  • In collaboration with ILMN leadership team, develops and delivers on business plans, budgets and forecasts.
  • Highly motivated and successful individual who can attract talented additions to the sales team, and build and maintain a positive, challenging and dynamic work environment.
  • Strong negotiation and problem resolution skills.
  • Proven ability to direct high level negotiations.
  • Excellent time management, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong technical knowledge of the markets that Illumina sells into.

 

Experience/Education

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 20 years of related experience, with 12+ years of people management experience.

The estimated base salary range for the Senior Director, Global Proteomics Sales role based in the United States of America is: $205,100 - $307,700. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
