Why this role is important?

Senior Director, Front Store Operations:

Reporting to the Vice President, National Operations, the Senior Director, Front Store Operations is accountable for the performance of core front store operations across the network and for setting the strategic direction for how those operations evolve over time. The role ensures strong, consistent execution of day-to-day processes while driving simplification, modernization, and long-term effectiveness across front store operations. Acting as a bridge between Central Office and the field, this leader understands what it takes to execute in stores and uses that perspective to shape programs, processes, and communications that are practical and built to deliver. In parallel, the role leverages enterprise capabilities, including data, technology, and cross-banner learnings, to accelerate progress, improve scalability, and enhance the customer experience.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead the development and execution of front store operational strategies that balance innovation with strong, consistent in-store execution, while leveraging enterprise capabilities to scale impact.

  • Own and evolve front store operating standards and associated certification programs to ensure they are practical, relevant, and consistently applied across all stores.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that simplify processes, reduce workload, and improve efficiency—while ensuring day-to-day operations remain stable and effective.

  • Act as a key partner to Regional VPs and field teams, bringing a strong understanding of store operations to resolve issues and improve execution on the ground.

  • Support and optimize food operations by identifying performance gaps and translating insights into practical actions for stores.

  • Lead cross-functional alignment and partner across the enterprise to ensure initiatives are operationally sound, well-implemented, and sustainable in stores.

  • Identify opportunities to leverage data, technology, and cross-banner learnings to improve efficiency, scalability, and the customer experience.

  • Own change management for all initiatives impacting stores, ensuring adoption without unnecessary complexity or disruption.

  • Provide oversight on training and implementation plans to ensure they are simple, effective, and grounded in day-to-day store operations.

  • Lead special projects from concept through execution, ensuring ideas translate into real, measurable impact in stores.

  • Regularly visit stores to stay connected to execution and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team, setting clear priorities and ensuring strong delivery against business objectives.

What You’ll Need:

  • Strong operator with the ability to toggle between strategic thinking and hands-on execution.

  • Deep understanding of store and field operations, with the ability to translate strategy into practical, in-store solutions.

  • Proven ability to drive innovation and continuous improvement without overcomplicating processes.

  • Strong judgment and prioritization skills—able to cut through noise and focus on what matters most to stores.

  • Results-oriented with a focus on efficiency, execution, and financial performance.

  • Credible partner to field teams; understands the realities of store operations and builds solutions that work in practice, not just on paper.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify complex ideas into clear direction for stores.

  • Experienced in leading cross-functional teams and navigating competing priorities.

  • Strong project and change management capability with a focus on adoption and sustainability.

  • Confident leader who can challenge constructively and drive alignment across stakeholders.

Experience:

  • 5 to 10+ years of experience in retail operations, ideally within Shoppers Drug Mart across Field and/or Central Office roles.

  • Demonstrated experience balancing operational execution with transformation or improvement initiatives.

  • Post-secondary education in retail operations, business, project management, or a related field is preferred.
