The Finance department is part of BCI Operations and is responsible for investment and corporate accounting, valuations, as well as financial statements and financial reporting to our clients.
Financial Reporting & Valuations is made up of two teams, Financial Reporting and Valuations who combined are responsible for the daily price verification for Fixed Income and Public Equity securities as well as the quarterly and year-end valuation processes for BCI’s private market investment portfolio, including Private Equity, Infrastructure & Renewable Resources, and Private Credit. The branch also resolves IFRS accounting and valuation issues across all asset classes, prepares annual financial statements for BCI programs, pooled funds, and Combined Funds, and reports and presents financial and valuation information to BCI’s Valuation Committee and Board and Board-related committees.
Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Finance (SVP) and CFO, the Senior Director, Financial Reporting & Valuations provides proactive strategic leadership to the branch as the branch evolves its operations and systems. This role will work with and build relationships across BCI with a focus on our private asset classes
CPA or equivalent designation (CFA, CBV preferred)
Minimum 15 years of progressive financial reporting and accounting experience in the investment or securities industry, including at least 10 years of strong leadership experience managing a team of professionals
In-depth understanding of IFRS accounting standards and their application to complex investment products and structures across multiple asset classes
Strong technical expertise in the valuation of public and private market investments, including experience with valuation methodologies for Private Equity, Infrastructure, Renewable Resources, and Private Credit
Experience with investment tax structuring and financial reporting standards
Ability to establish and maintain strong governance frameworks and internal controls
Experience leading and developing high-performing teams through coaching, talent development, and performance management
Strategic and proactive mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to prepare briefing materials and present complex financial and valuation matters to executive leadership, Audit Committee, Board of Directors, Valuation Committee and external clients
Ability to influence and build trusted relationships at all levels, driving continuous improvement and change in a demanding environment
Provides strategic leadership to Finance as a Steering Committee member, influencing organizational strategy and engagement while building key stakeholder relationships across BCI Leads the Financial Reporting & Valuations branch, ensuring effective delivery of accounting and financial reporting services as the branch evolves operations and systems
Drives short- and long-term Finance strategies, setting key performance and risk indicators to monitor progress and business changes
Champions cross-functional collaboration and leverages networks to align with best practices and deliver innovative solutions
Ensures adherence to internal controls, efficient resource allocation, and continuous improvement of systems, processes, and reporting standards, while proactively managing operational risks
Prepares and presents analysis and recommendations to the Valuation Committee, Audit Committee, Board of Directors and senior leadership
Leads the Valuations team responsible for daily valuation operations and ensures timely, accurate valuations across all investment products
Oversees the valuation of public and private market investments, including daily price verification for fixed income and public equity securities
Directs quarterly and year-end valuation processes for BCI's private market investment portfolio, including Private Equity, Infrastructure & Renewable Resources, and Private Credit
Provides subject matter expertise on complex valuation issues for both liquid and illiquid investment products
Maintains independence and integrity while reviewing valuation reports prepared by external and internal stakeholders
Advises on and recommends accounting, valuation, and reporting policies to ensure alignment with client and stakeholder requirements and BCI policies
Directs the production of financial statements for all investment pools, pooled funds, and combined funds, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with reporting standards
Oversees the production of client accounting reports and ensures key branch goals, objectives, and deliverables are achieved
Provides subject matter expertise on accounting disclosures, reporting requirements, and complex accounting issues, researching and documenting conclusions as needed
Ensures the application of IFRS accounting principles, industry standards, and professional judgment across diverse initiatives
Acts as the primary liaison with external and internal auditors, coordinating audit activities and responses
Acts as a subject matter expert for accounting and financial reporting matters on system conversion and enhancement projects
This role will be based in our headquarters in Victoria, BC, Canada.
The annualized base salary range for this Victoria-based role is $180,000 - $230,000.
BCI offers a competitive total rewards package, including a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan, and paid time off. We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we operate and with consideration for internal equity and job structure. The base salary will consider factors such as the individual's skill set, experience, and internal equity. We aim for actual pay to be around the market median for expected performance and the upper quartile for excellent performance. Actual salaries may vary based on experience and expertise.
