Senior Director, Environmental, Health, & Safety
As Senior Director of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) for Altium Packaging reporting to the SVP, this position owns the EHS systems, policies and culture development of Altium’s EHS program, leading to world class results. This position has regional safety managers as direct reports and is part of the Operations Services Leadership Team. This role will work closely with operations, compliance, risk management, and other shared services functions to reinforce safety culture and drive safety performance through commitment and compliance to standards and regulations, improvement of safety systems and processes, and safety culture development in a continuous improvement fashion for all Altium locations in the US and Canada.
Essential Functions- Roles/Responsibilities
- Directly managing team of regional EHS resources to provide leadership and support for the development and integration of EHS systems and standards into business, operations, and functional organizations.
- Establishing culture for EHS including focusing the organization on leading indicators to identify and drive improvements in safety performance, including employee engagement and participation.
- Driving the identification and reduction in incidents that have Significant Injury and Fatality (SIF) potential, by focusing on brain-centered behavioral improvement and reducing risk taking across the workforce.
- Leads the effort to maintain a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment through planning and implementing safety policies and procedures.
- Understand and ensure compliance with environmental regulations such as air, water, stormwater, chemicals and chemical disposal. Proactively identifying risks and emerging issues while encouraging early reporting, open communication, and a learning-focused response.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local EHS laws, regulations, codes and standards
- Oversee the prevention and identification of hazardous workplace conditions.
- Ensures and maintains necessary record keeping, including all safety and accident reports in accordance with established guidelines and assisting with workers compensation cases and programs.
- Conducts extensive post-incident reviews for every recordable or serious near-miss incident across the company
- Utilizes existing and creates new communication and compliance processes to ensure that identified hazards that likely exist across facilities are identified and corrective action is implemented.
- Compiles and submits accident reports to regulatory agencies, prepares analyses of industrial accident causes and hazards to health.
- Conducts frequent onsite EHS audits at Altium manufacturing facilities and prepares results and action items for the plant, their operations leadership, and legal review.
- Coordinates an intercompany regional audit program whereby individuals from nearby facilities visit each other’s plants and conduct audits thereby ensuring consistent compliance audit procedures companywide. This includes conducting OHSA training, identifying priority participants, and providing leadership and facilitation of corrective actions.
- Conducts EHS training sessions regionally to enhance plant level understanding of safety requirements and best practices.
- Communicates with the entire company regularly about Altium safety goals and performance against those goals and strives to motivate everyone to treat safety as a core value in their everyday work and personal routines. Further, communicates the leadership requirements associated with the process of establishing goals - e.g. gap analysis of actual performance to planned or strategic goals, facilitate prioritization of activities, etc.
- Oversees hearing conservation program- training, testing, and follow-up.
- Understand the role of culture in EHS and is the company’s leader of the safety culture improvement initiative.
- Works closely with Engineering and Procurement departments to ensure adherence to equipment standards with all new and reconditioned equipment.
- Serve as a resource for new capital and M&A projects to identify and address potential EHS issues

Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Business, Engineering or relevant discipline
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA standards and requirements, NIOSH, ANSI, as well as related State regulations and standards. Ability to translate regulatory knowledge into policies and procedures
- 10+ years of leadership experience within a manufacturing environment, at least 5 of which are in a multi-plant safety leadership role.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and persuasively with all levels of the organization, as individual must effect change without the authority to mandate it. Organizational influencing skills are critical.
- Expertise in applying safety knowledge, data analysis and facilitation skills to
develop solutions to a variety of problems - Superior oral and written communication skills
- Proven competency in personal computer applications such as Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, database systems
- Demonstrated experience with change management techniques, influencing change while maintaining strong business relationships
- High level of initiative to identify problems and develop solutions
- Knowledge of OSHA, NIOSH, ANSI and state regulations and standards
- Must be willing to travel throughout the US and Canada, up to 50% of the time
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Masters in applicable field
- Experience in leading a safety culture transformation is a plus.
