Job Summary:

We are seeking a Director of Engineering & Architecture to lead the teams and platforms responsible for identity and access security, cloud security, network and infrastructure protection, and enterprise security architecture.

This role is a senior operating leader within the cybersecurity organization. You will own the delivery, technical direction, and operating model for cybersecurity engineering and architecture - ensuring security is designed-in, scalable, and aligned to how Acrisure grows and integrates businesses. Success requires a leader who can run teams, make clear technical decisions, partner effectively with Technology leadership, and translate security strategy into execution.

This is a hands-on leadership role suited for a seasoned operator who is comfortable balancing strategy, delivery, and people leadership in a fast-growing, highly acquisitive environment.

Responsibilities:

Cybersecurity Engineering & Operating Model

  • Define the strategy and lifecycle for core cybersecurity platforms supporting identity, cloud security, network protection, and architectural controls.
  • Own cybersecurity platform and tooling decisions, including vendor selection, rationalization, and lifecycle management — ensuring the security stack is purposeful, integrated, and evaluated against measurable risk reduction outcomes.
  • Establish clear structure and accountability across engineering and architecture teams, ensuring work is focused on the highest-risk and highest-impact outcomes.
  • Build a culture of ownership, execution discipline, and strong partnership with Technology teams.

Cloud Security

  • Own cloud security architecture and engineering practices across Acrisure’s cloud platforms and shared services.
  • Define and maintain cloud security standards, guardrails, and reference architectures that enable secure delivery at enterprise scale.
  • Partner with cloud and infrastructure teams to embed security into platforms and delivery workflows rather than relying on point-in-time controls.

Identity & Access Management

  • Own enterprise identity and access security, including SSO, MFA, identity lifecycle, federation, access governance, and privileged access.
  • Drive modernization of identity capabilities to support strong identity assurance and a Zero Trust–aligned access model across workforce, third-party, and machine identities.
  • Ensure identity controls scale across organic growth and acquisitions, with automation and measurable risk reduction.

Security Architecture & Engineering Reviews

  • Establish and operate a pragmatic security architecture review process that supports delivery while protecting the firm.
  • Oversee security design reviews for new systems, major changes, and integrations, producing clear decisions, conditions, and remediation paths.
  • Publish and maintain reusable security patterns, standards, and reference architectures to reduce friction, improve consistency.
  • Partner with application and platform engineering teams to embed security into CI/CD pipelines and developer workflows — reducing risk at the source without slowing delivery

Network & Infrastructure Security

  • Oversee engineering ownership for network and infrastructure security controls, including segmentation, exposure management, and secure connectivity.
  • Partner closely with Network Operations, Infrastructure, and IT Integrations teams to maintain a consistent and secure enterprise architecture.
  • Define and maintain network security standards for acquired entities, ensuring consistent segmentation, exposure reduction, and secure connectivity are achieved within integration timelines.

M&A and Integration Enablement

  • Support Acrisure’s M&A strategy by ensuring cybersecurity engineering and architecture requirements are clear, repeatable, and executable.
  • Partner with IT Integrations to identify and address identity, network, and architectural risks during and after acquisitions.
  • Drive consistency and uplift toward enterprise security standards without slowing integration velocity.

Metrics, Risk Reduction & Executive Communication

  • Define and maintain meaningful engineering and architecture KPIs that reflect control effectiveness, risk reduction, and delivery performance.
  • Communicate technical risks and tradeoffs clearly to senior leadership, translating complexity into actionable decisions.
  • Serve as a steady, credible advisor during incidents, escalations, and strategic initiatives.
  • Track architectural exceptions and platform adoption to ensure security controls are improving engineering velocity rather than creating friction.

Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of senior engineers and architects.
  • Set a high standard for clarity, quality, and follow-through.
  • Actively mentor future leaders and ensure succession and depth across critical security domains.

Leadership Approach:

This role operates as a senior, trusted partner within the CISO organization and the broader technology leadership team. Success is reflected through meaningful outcomes—reducing measurable security risk while supporting the business’s ability to move quickly and effectively.

The role is designed to independently own most technical security decisions, including architecture discussions and security exceptions. Engagement with the CISO and senior leadership occurs for matters involving significant risk or enterprise‑level tradeoffs.

  • Operator-minded: focused on delivery, outcomes, and sustained improvement.
  • Opinionated and decisive, with strong judgment and accountability for results.
  • Pragmatic security leader who reduces risk while enabling the business to move quickly.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity and building structure without bureaucracy.
  • Trusted partner to Technology leadership; collaborative but firm where security decisions matter.

In the first year, success looks like building confidence and trust: smoother operations, more predictable outcomes, and strong partnership with the COO organization and technology leadership, positioning cybersecurity engineering and architecture as a dependable, business‑aligned function.

Identity and access management is well‑established and built to scale. Cloud security posture continues to strengthen in meaningful ways. Security architecture reviews are consistent, efficient, and valued by engineering teams. Clear architecture standards and patterns guide decision‑making, with well‑managed exceptions and thoughtful escalation only for true edge‑case or enterprise‑level decisions.

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required; CISSP, CCSP, or equivalent; architecture or cloud security certification strongly preferred; advanced degree a plus
  • 10+ years of experience in cybersecurity engineering and architecture, including cloud, identity, and infrastructure security.
  • 5+ years of experience leading and developing senior technical teams.
  • Demonstrated experience operating in complex, high-growth, or M&A-heavy environments.
  • Strong background in security architecture, access management, cloud security, and enterprise-scale engineering.
  • Proven ability to communicate with senior technical and non-technical leaders and influence outcomes across teams.
