Position Overview:

Finning Canada is hiring a Permanent, Full-time Senior Director, Commercial Finance & Performance Management (CFPM), based in either Edmonton or Calgary.

Reporting to the Vice President, Finance & Supply Chain, this role represents one of the most senior and influential finance leadership positions within Finning Canada. As the senior commercial finance leader for a ~$6B revenue business, the Senior Director, CFPM plays a pivotal role in driving profitable growth, optimizing capital deployment, and strengthening commercial governance across the organization. Partnering closely with Canadian Operations, this leader oversees the Commercial & Financial Business Partnering team and serves as a trusted advisor to senior and executive leadership, translating strategy into actionable financial insight.

Leading a high-performing team of finance leaders, the role champions strong commercial acumen, best-in-class budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning, and delivers insightful financial and operational reporting to enable data-driven decision-making and effective performance management. With significant exposure to the Canadian leadership team and the broader Finning Executive, this role offers the opportunity to lead high-impact initiatives, influence enterprise-wide strategy, and shape the financial future of the business. Positioned as a key succession role to the VP, Finance & Supply Chain, this role provides a clear pathway to broader executive accountability and long-term leadership growth within Finning.

Job Description:

Major Job Functions:

Strategic & Commercial Leadership

  • Drive financial strategy aligned to Finning and Caterpillar objectives

  • Provide executive decision support and investment governance

  • Identify competitive trends and growth opportunities

  • Operate with integrity through maintaining social, ethical and organizational integrity in conducting business activities; maintains confidentiality, adheres to corporate policies and procedures

  • Accountable for the Commercial Governance for Finning Canada. $6Bn+ of revenue, $500M of EBIT

  • Accountable for delivering the strategic plan, governance processes and alignment internally with Finning and Caterpillar

  • Accountable to be a change agent in how we manage and re-shape the business

Drive Financial Performance across the business

  • Leader in driving, understanding and analysing financial performance on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis

  • Owner of identifying gaps in performance and implementing action plans to address

  • Take an objective view, balancing operational and corporate requirements 

  • Identify, communicate, and mitigate potential issues or liabilities; recommend effective solutions

  • Focus on EBIT, Invested Capital, ROIC and FCF

Financial Planning, Analysis & Reporting

  • Own budgeting, forecasting, and long‑range plans

  • Responsible for the efficient management of financial and accounting operations including financial reporting, budgeting, asset management and control

  • Provide financially sound information and manage the effective flow of that information through financial systems, reports, and dashboards

  • Ensure high‑quality C‑suite reporting and KPI insight

  • Improve forecast accuracy and performance analytics

Governance & Capital Discipline

  • Lead large deal/tender governance and post‑investment review

  • Approve major commercial decisions and business cases

Leadership & Stakeholder Influence

  • Act as trusted advisor to the FINCA EC, FLT, and Board

  • Represent FINCA with Caterpillar and external stakeholders

  • Lead the CFPM Team, driving engagement, development talent and providing a succession pipeline

  • 100% accountability for results and impact on people by setting a strong example in high performance leadership

Education and Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of relevant industry experience is required 

  • 10+ years experience in a leadership capacity

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience in related industry or public practice.

  • Master's or Bachelor’s degree in finance or related degree preferred

  • Accounting designation or graduate degree preferred  

  • Highly effective senior leadership skills gained through previous leadership experience

  • Experience leading implementation projects for financial systems at a senior leader level, on a global scale (system examples:  BPC, SAP, Hyperion, M3, Peoplesoft, or Other)

  • Practical experience and theoretical knowledge in Dealership Business Models, end-to-end supply chain management and Financial & Commercial practices

  • Operational experience across a number of disciplines / functions

  • Global business strategy and corporate finance knowledge

  • Advanced general accounting knowledge coupled with a sound understanding of business processes, the interrelationship of business functions, corporate governance issues and operational needs

  • Knowledge of financial systems with historical proven, positive track record of solution implementation, optimization, and sustainment

  • Knowledge of the operations of related industry segments

  • Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite and in-house systems including BPC, M3, Power BI, Concur

  • Understands and adheres to Finning policies and procedures, including safety, inclusion, and diversity 

  • Ability to determine key performance indicators (KPIs), variance issues and improve internal controls

  • Experience working with CAT systems, tools, data, or reports including DFRS, CAT dealer portal is preferred

  • Change management training, experience, and/or PROSCI or Lean Change Agent certification preferred
