What is the opportunity?

The Senior Director of Commercial Banking Performance Management will serve as a strategic financial leader, acting as the primary financial advisor and performance steward for key pillars within Commercial Banking. This role will lead financial planning, performance management, and strategic transformation initiatives for RBC’s Commercial Bank, collaborating closely with business leaders to shape financial strategies, optimize performance, and drive change in support of growth and operational excellence.

A critical aspect of this role is leveraging data and analytics to inform decision-making, identify trends, and unlock insights that drive financial and operational improvements. The incumbent will champion using data and analytics to drive portfolio insights at the client, segment and product level, enhance forecasting accuracy, and identify opportunities for efficiency and growth.

What will you do?

Financial Leadership & Performance Management

  • Coach and develop a team of finance professionals, fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Act as the financial lead for Ventures/RBCx, Origins, and Sustainability Finance, overseeing all financial planning, analysis, and reporting.
  • Own the Total Commercial Banking NIE (Non-Interest Expense) and FTE (Full-Time Equivalent) metrics for actuals, planning, and forecasting
  • Drive the monthly and quarterly segment financial performance operating results , and Monthly and Quarterly Business Review support
  • Accountable to deliver the Commercial Banking’s Client Segment Financial Plan
  • Lead financial advisory and performance management for assigned pillars, consulting with senior stakeholders as required.
  • Serve as the finance lead for several Transformation and Strategic initiatives across the enterprise including refining the target operating model for Commercial Banking Finance
  • Act as a Center of Excellence for process and reporting improvements, introducing innovative solutions to enhance team reporting and efficiency
  • Lead Transparent Profitability Reporting data strategy and leverage insights for client/product profitability analysis
  • Support business cases for strategic initiatives tied to Strategic Transformation Office, Ventures, Origins, and Sustainability Finance
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience influencing executives (e.g., COO, SMT members).
  • Expertise in data-driven decision-making, including profitability analytics (e.g., TPR, C360).

What do you need to succeed?

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. Advanced credentials (MBA, CFA, CPA) are strongly preferred.
  • Leadership & Executive Presence: 10+ years of progressive experience in FP&A, Commercial Banking or Corporate Strategy, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Demonstrated ability to inspire teams through clear vision, talent development, and future-focused growth.
  • Proven ability to act as a strategic CFO partner for business units, balancing financial rigor with growth enablement.
  • Strategic Influence: Proven track record of collaborating in a matrixed environment, influencing stakeholders, and driving outcomes through strong interpersonal skills and trust-based partnerships.
  • Operational Agility: Expertise in managing competing priorities under tight deadlines, navigating change, and communicating priorities clearly to teams and partners.
  • Executive Communication: Demonstrated ability to prepare and present financial content for senior leadership.
  • Technical Proficiency: Exceptional financial modeling, data analysis, and communication skills. Experience with tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, Thinkcell, EPM, and PeopleSoft.
  • Industry Knowledge: Prior experience in a financial institution.
  • Core Competencies: High integrity, strong business acumen, sound judgment, and a results-driven mindset with a sense of urgency.
  • Attention to Detail & Organization: Meticulous focus on accuracy, precision, and well-structured workflows in financial reporting and analysis.
