GE Appliances, a Haier company, is seeking a Senior Director, Cloud Software Engineering to lead the organization responsible for the cloud foundation behind our connected appliance ecosystem. This leader will own the strategy, architecture, delivery, and operation of the cloud platforms, infrastructure, core services, and customer-facing cloud capabilities that power SmartHQ and our connected Home and Pro experiences.
This role leads a team of approximately 25 engineers and leaders supporting IoT cloud infrastructure, core cloud services, and cloud feature engineering. The Senior Director will set the technical direction for scalability, reliability, security, disaster recovery, failover, high availability, multi-region design, and service performance, while partnering across embedded software, mobile, architecture, security, and business teams to deliver innovative connected experiences. Additionally, this role will also help drive engineering productivity and new capabilities through AI and modern software engineering practices.

How You'll Create Possibilities
Strategy & Architecture
- Define and lead the multi-year cloud software engineering strategy for GE Appliances’ connected ecosystem and SmartHQ platform.
- Own the overall technical direction, architecture, and engineering standards for cloud platforms, shared services, and customer-facing cloud capabilities.
- Shape long-term cloud services and multi-cloud strategies aligned to business goals, growth priorities, and platform resiliency needs.
- Partner with cloud providers and key stakeholders to evolve scalable, secure, and resilient cloud capabilities for connected appliances.
Engineering Execution & Operations
- Lead the delivery and operation of production cloud systems that support connected appliance experiences and business priorities.
- Drive strong engineering execution through roadmap planning, prioritization, budgeting, resource allocation, and software quality standards.
- Own cloud platform scalability, resilience, observability, incident response, and continuous service improvement.
- Lead the strategy for disaster recovery, failover, high availability, multi-region resiliency, and cloud SLA performance.
- Ensure the organization delivers with speed, quality, and operational discipline across both platform and feature development.
People Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing organization of managers, technical leaders, and engineers.
- Ensure the team is appropriately structured, staffed, and aligned to current and future business needs.
- Build an inclusive, high-accountability culture focused on collaboration, talent development, and operational excellence.
- Drive strong talent practices across hiring, performance management, development planning, and succession planning.
Cross-Functional Partnership & Innovation
- Partner closely with embedded software, mobile app, architecture, security, and business teams to deliver end-to-end connected experiences across device, app, and cloud.
- Enable next-generation connected appliance capabilities through strong execution and close partnership across software teams and business stakeholders.
- Support new digital service opportunities through scalable cloud platforms, APIs, and modern connected capabilities.
- Leverage AI to improve engineering productivity, enable agentic workflows, and drive the development and production deployment of scalable AI-enabled capabilities and experiences.
What You'll Bring to Our Team
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- 15+ years of experience in software engineering, cloud engineering, infrastructure, architecture, or related technical leadership roles with increasing scope and responsibility.
- 5+ years of experience leading software engineering organizations at the Director level or equivalent, including experience leading global teams and/or leaders of leaders.
- Demonstrated success leading teams that build and operate enterprise-scale cloud systems.
- Broad cloud platform experience, with AWS and GCP preferred, ideally in IoT or connected product environments.
- Experience developing cloud strategy, technical roadmaps, and multi-cloud approaches that support short- and long-term business goals.
- Demonstrated experience leveraging AI throughout the software development life cycle to drive innovation, engineering productivity, and software quality, including hands-on leadership in designing agentic workflows, applying AI agents to engineering and business processes, and building, scaling, and deploying AI-enabled applications into secure, reliable production environments.
- Proven ability to influence executive stakeholders, align cross-functional teams, and lead transformational change across multiple functions.
- Strong operational mindset, including experience with production systems, reliability, resiliency, and service performance.
- Experience driving engineering excellence through modern software development practices, strong technical leadership, and metrics-driven decision making.
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to connect technical strategy to business outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in consumer IoT, connected home, smart appliance, or similar device-to-cloud ecosystems.
- Experience leading organizations responsible for cloud infrastructure, platform services, and cloud feature engineering.
- Experience supporting SaaS, subscription, digital service, or data monetization models.
- Experience leading teams through digital transformation and operating in Agile environments; familiarity with Waterfall is also valuable.
- Experience building organizations and technical platforms that support rapid innovation while maintaining strong operational reliability.
