Senior Director, Business Performance & Medical Education 

GSK site preferred locations: Philadelphia Walnut Street, PA, Upper Providence, PA, Durham, NC.  An on-site presence of 2-3 days per week on average is anticipated.   

The Senior Director, Business Performance & Education will lead and oversee all business operations & monitoring performance needs for USMA. It will design and embed robust performance systems—KPIs, dashboards, and scorecards—that consistently measure organization-wide success and drive data-informed decisions. This role delivers executive insights on trends, risks, and opportunities, and partners closely with transformation, digital, and IT teams to enable automation and measurable performance improvements.

Accountable for strengthening execution discipline, the incumbent establishes governance structures, operational cadences, and clear accountability frameworks to ensure strategic initiatives are delivered with rigor and impact. They will evaluate, prioritize, and implement standardized processes, operating models, and best practices across functions to enhance efficiency, quality, and scalability, leveraging the right blend of resources (onshore, offshore, third-party, etc.).

  

As a collaborative change agent and trusted advisor to senior leaders, the role modernizes how Medical Affairs engages internally and externally shaping partnerships, digital collaboration, congress and events management, and data-driven strategy while anticipating industry trends. The leader fosters a culture of continuous improvement, experimentation, feedback, and knowledge sharing, and leads change management to drive adoption of new ways of working. They ensure ethical, compliant, and disciplined execution across teams and partnerships by modeling scientific integrity, adhering to company policies and external standards (e.g., FDA, OIG, PhRMA), and applying structured project management, metrics, and reporting.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and embed performance systems, KPIs, dashboards, and scorecards to consistently measure organization-wide success. 
  • Deliver executive insights on trends, risks, and opportunities to support data-driven decision making. 
  • Drive process excellence and continuous improvement using structured methodologies to enhance efficiency, quality, and scalability. 
  • Evaluate, prioritize, and implement improvement opportunities, standardized processes, operating models, and best practices across functions. 
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, experimentation, feedback, and knowledge sharing to sustain innovation and transformation. 
  • Strengthen execution discipline for strategic initiatives through governance structures, operational cadences, and clear accountability frameworks. 
  • Partner with transformation, digital, and IT teams to enable automation and performance improvements. 
  • Serve as a collaborative change agent and trusted advisor to senior leaders, navigating the matrix to foster alignment and achieve outcomes. 
  • Advocate for business excellence and lead change management for process and performance enhancements. 
  • Provides centralized oversight of US congress and events, develops and coaches a high-performing team, and optimizes resources across therapeutic areas and event types. 
  • Lead, coach and develop a high performing team; set clear goals and optimize resource allocation across therapeutic areas and event types. 
  • Lead transformation in Medical Affairs by modernizing partnerships, digital collaboration, and data-driven strategy; anticipate industry trends to position the function as a trusted innovator; drive adoption through clear value communication and change management; and foster a culture of continuous improvement, experimentation, and knowledge sharing. 
  • Ensure ethical, compliant, and disciplined execution across teams and partnerships by modeling scientific integrity and adherence to company policies and external standards (e.g., FDA, OIG, PhRMA), applying operational rigor and compliance in enterprise collaborations, and using structured project management, metrics, and reporting to measure value and impact. 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Life Sciences, Health Sciences, Communications, Business, or related field required.
  • Ten or more years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry. 
  • Five or more years of experience in leadership (people management preferred) roles with at least 3 years of relevant pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry experience within medical affairs or related functions 
  • Two or more years of experience in US pharmaceutical business affairs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS or PhD degree in in Life Sciences, Health Sciences, Communications, Business, or related field required.
  • 15 or more years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
