Senior Director, Business Continuity Management & Operational Resilience

The Senior Director, Business Continuity Management Central & Operational Resilience will spearhead the design and execution of RBC’s enterprise-wide strategy for business continuity management (BCM) and operational resilience within the First Line of Defence (1LOD).  This leader will establish the strategic vision, long-term operating model and governance framework that drive consistency, efficiency and resilience across the organization.

Partnering closely with business and functional units BCM, Operational Resilience and Incident Management teams, the Senior Director will strengthen coordination and elevate the quality of BCM practices across multiple platforms.  This role ensures RBC remains best-in-class in preparedness and response to disruptions through an integrated approach that aligns people, technology and process. 

Serving as a key bridge between senior management and both First and Second Line of Defence teams, the Senior Director will ensure effective risk mitigation, regulatory compliance and cohesive alignment across all risk areas.

Job Details:

·       Set the overall strategic direction and governance for the BCM Central & Operational Resilience team, in collaboration with business and functional unit BCM, Operational Resilience, and Incident Management teams, ensuring our ability to prepare and meet regulatory demands and effectively mitigate disruptions.

·       Provides thought leadership on all aspects of enterprise-wide operational resiliency, aligning with or exceeding industry best practices and evolving regulatory requirements.

·       Establish a strong understanding of the operational risks and threats facing the financial services sector and RBC, proactively engaging with regional leadership and risk experts to gain a perspective on the ability of the enterprise and regions to prepare for and respond to disruptions.

·       Work with Operational Risk colleagues and risk domain experts (e.g. Cyber/IT, Conduct, Security, etc.) to develop a comprehensive regional perspective of operational resiliency. Engage with all relevant partners to ensure a coordinated and holistic approach to addressing resiliency. 

·       Lead the transformation of BCM/Operational Resilience programs by identifying opportunities to streamline processes, leverage technology (e.g., automation, AI), and reduce redundancies while enhancing effectiveness.

·       Manage supplier resilience and conduct BCM assessments of 3rd party supplier arrangements and support joint testing as required.

·       Provide guidance and oversight on Work Area Recovery (WAR) site practices, including supporting exercises (e.g., simulations) validating recovery strategies, and maintaining WAR facilities.

Additional Details:

·       Oversee BCM Mass Notification Support & Tool Management (testing via Everbridge).

·       Drive best-in-class resilience capabilities by overseeing Incident Management preparedness, response, and recovery frameworks.

·       Provide guidance on Business Continuity Risk regulatory requirements, including alignment with operational resilience and other emerging requirements. Lead or participate in regulatory exams and audit reviews locally, as required.

·       Present reporting and updates to applicable committees, senior executives and management on operational resiliency practices and risks.

·       Lead, coach and mentor employees in alignment with RBC’s leadership model and values.
