The Senior DevOps Engineer is responsible for managing the end-to-end software release process, including source code management, to ensure secure, compliant, reliable and efficient deployments of applications across development, testing, and production environments for our financial applications. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and streamline release pipelines, automate processes, and resolve deployment issues. The ideal candidate will act as an evangelist and champion the DevOps culture.
Senior DevOps Engineer – IBM i & IBM z
Core Responsibilities
- Architect and manage DevOps pipelines for IBM i and IBM z platforms, ensuring high availability, security, and compliance for mission-critical financial applications.
- Administer source control and deployment tools, including MD Change (Midrange Dynamics) for IBM i and ChangeMan (Rocket) for IBM z, to support versioning, change tracking and automated release deployments.
- Streamline and automate end-to-end CI/CD workflows for RPG, COBOL, CL, and JCL codebases on the IBM i and IBM z environments.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with development, QA, and operations teams to standardize DevOps practices across IBM i and IBM z systems and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- Integrate DevOps tooling (e.g., Jira, GitHub, ServiceNow) to enhance traceability, streamline workflows and support audit readiness.
- Ensure regulatory compliance (e.g., SOX, SOC2) by enforcing change control policies, maintaining detailed audit trails, and supporting rollback procedures.
- Develop and maintain scripts and automation for provisioning, deployment, and monitoring across hybrid environments.
- Participate in modernization initiatives, including API enablement, microservices integration, and cloud connectivity for legacy financial systems.
Finance-Specific Focus Areas
- Security-first DevOps: Implement access control and secure deployment practices tailored to financial data and transaction integrity.
- Compliance alignment: Ensure all DevOps activities meet financial industry regulations and internal governance standards.
- Mandatory Skills
A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science or other related scientific or technical discipline with 10+ years related professional experience. - Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and release management processes.
- Proficiency in IBM i (formerly AS/400) and IBM z (mainframe) systems, including their architecture, operations, and development environments.
- Hands-on experience with tools and technologies specific to IBMi and IBMz, such as RPG, COBOL, JCL, and CL programming
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Experience writing comprehensive documentation.
- Fast learner, Detailed Oriented, Self-motivated, and Organized
- Desired Skills
- Experience with Change Management Tools - MDCMS, Change Man.
- Experience with dev tools is a plus - JIRA, Service Now, GitHub.
- Experience with Scrum/Agile style SDLC.
