(Senior) Development Partner, Agri-commodities

[What the role is]

The Trade Division is responsible for driving Singapore's trade and developing Singapore as a global trading hub. Our Trade 2030 strategy seeks to deepen trade by building up the volume of trade managed in Singapore and supporting global trading companies to do other activities beyond trading. We also widen trade by diversifying the type of products Singapore trades in and bringing in companies from emerging markets.

[What you will be working on]

As a (Senior) Development Partner, Agri-commodities, you will play a key role in growing Singapore's agri-commodities trading sector and anchoring global traders in Singapore. Your job will entail:

  • Engaging and building relationships with local and international agri-commodity traders to understand their business needs, challenges and growth plans in Singapore
  • Working with agri-commodity companies to anchor new trade flows in emerging areas (e.g. sustainable agriculture products, alternative proteins) and support them to expand activities beyond trading such as innovation, sustainability and value-added services
  • Administering grant and tax incentive schemes including the Global Trader Programme (GTP), assessing applications and working with companies to structure proposals that deliver long-term commitment and economic value to Singapore
  • Identifying opportunities to deepen trade by building up the volume of agri-commodities trade managed in Singapore, and widening trade by diversifying product types and bringing in companies from emerging markets
  • Driving ecosystem initiatives to strengthen Singapore's agri-commodities trading hub, including working with trade associations, talent development, trade tech adoption, digitalisation and sustainability initiatives
  • Monitoring trends and developments in the global agri-commodities sector, identifying risks and opportunities for Singapore's trading hub

[What we are looking for]

  • 3-5 years of work experience in areas of business development, industry engagement or trade-related work would be a bonus. Knowledge of agri-commodities sector, supply chains or trading would be advantageous
  • A strategic thinker with the ability to understand business models, identify growth opportunities and translate them into actionable projects that deliver value to both companies and Singapore
  • A fast learner who is agile and comfortable working across functions and domains. Able to understand complex commercial arrangements, financial structures and incentive schemes
  • A self-motivator with positive attitude and excellent work ethic. You should be comfortable actively engaging in conversations with senior leaders in global trading companies
  • Strong analytical, presentation, written and interpersonal skills. Able to assess business proposals, structure incentive packages and present recommendations clearly
  • Independent self-starter who can manage multiple stakeholders including companies, government agencies and industry associations. Able to build trust and credibility with the agri-commodities trading community
