Senior Delivery Manager
Are you an experienced delivery leader who excels at driving complex initiatives and enabling teams to achieve outstanding results?
About the team:
Our mission is to build and maintain a world-class knowledge graph that serves as the backbone of Elsevier’s solutions, delivering valuable insights and analysis to our customers. As a central Data Engineering organisation, we are committed to developing innovative solutions that enhance the quality of our data, enable new data-driven products, and improve the efficiency of our products and services. Ultimately, our goal is to advance science, healthcare, and society through the power of data.
The Portfolio and Agile team are a key support function within Data Engineering, with a mission to enable teams to focus on doing the right work at the right time, with the right capacity—delivering value predictably, sustainably, and at scale.
About the role:
As a Senior Delivery Manager, you will operate across a programme of high-priority, complex, and at-risk initiatives involving multiple teams. You will be accountable for ensuring outcomes are delivered predictably and sustainably, enabling teams to deliver incremental value aligned with strategic goals. You will foster an environment where teams can self-organise and operate effectively, applying agile principles in practice to improve flow, quality, and collaboration. You’ll help teams and stakeholders maintain visibility of progress through clear communication, metrics, and delivery insights, building confidence and alignment across functions.
Working closely with other Delivery Managers and Portfolio experts, you will contribute to improving delivery frameworks, driving consistency in planning and execution, and helping to build delivery capability through coaching and mentorship.
Key responsibilities:
Depending on the scope and complexity, lead the delivery of a cross-domain initiative, managing dependencies and risks to ensure predictable outcomes across multiple teams.
Driving effective planning, prioritisation, and alignment between teams and stakeholders.
Communicating delivery progress clearly, using data, metrics, and visualisation tools to provide transparency and delivery confidence.
Promoting agile principles and continuous improvement to optimise delivery flow and team effectiveness.
Identifying and addressing delivery challenges early, ensuring effective issue resolution and risk mitigation.
Contributing to the evolution of delivery practices and frameworks across Data Engineering.
Coaching and mentoring other Delivery Managers and team members to build delivery maturity.
Requirements:
3+ years of experience managing the delivery of complex software or data engineering initiatives across multiple teams.
Deep understanding of agile and lean methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe) and practical experience applying them at scale in complex multi-team environments.
Proven ability to manage dependencies, risks, and priorities across cross-functional teams.
Strong stakeholder management skills with experience in influencing and aligning diverse groups.
Demonstrated ability to analyse and use metrics to drive decisions and improve delivery outcomes.
Excellent communication, facilitation, and conflict resolution skills.
Passion for enabling teams to succeed and fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
Comfortable engaging in discussions on technology and long-term technical strategy with both technical and non-technical audiences.
Recognised agile certification (e.g. Certified Scrum Master, Professional Scrum Master, PMI-ACP) desirable.
