As a Senior Data Transformation Specialist at ENMAX, you will play a critical leadership role in building and maintaining data systems used for data science and analytics. This position demands deep technical expertise in leading large scale system implementations, involving data design, engineering and operations using modern data stack platforms, such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure Databricks etc. Using your strong analytical, collaboration and technical skills, you will champion data driven culture, lead and implement methods to improve data reliability and quality, combining raw data from various sources to create consistent and machine-readable formats.
You will engage with both business and I&T senior leaders and SMEs to identify needs and opportunities, translate requirements into robust data system designs, drive implementation of these requirements, and provide technical leadership across the entire data value stream. Your role involves creating and maintaining optimal data pipeline architecture, assembling large, complex data sets, and working with stakeholders to support their data infrastructure needs. Major Responsibilities:
Data Enablement & Engineering
Lead implementation and optimization of data platforms, pipelines, and data engineering frameworks that support business insights and objectives.
Standardize data ingestion, transformation, quality monitoring, and compliance practices to improve reliability, reusability, and scalability.
Simplify and modernize existing data processes, tools, and patterns to reduce complexity, duplication, and cost.
Configure and support ML/Ops capabilities to enable data science and ML/AI teams.
Operational Excellence & Governance
Design resilient, secure, and cost-efficient data systems aligned with disaster recovery, business continuity, and cybersecurity standards.
Conduct code reviews, enforce development standards, and maintain high-quality technical documentation.
Collaborate with enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, risk, and compliance to ensure alignment with policies, standards, and best practices.
Monitor and optimize data infrastructure spend and resource utilization.
Innovation & Technology Advancement
Evaluate emerging data technologies through pilots and proofs-of-concept and assess their feasibility and business value.
Promote purposeful innovation grounded in measurable outcomes and strategic alignment.
Data Culture & Change Adoption
Support change management efforts for adoption and evolution of data platforms and practices.
Lead and participate in communities of practice to promote knowledge sharing, data engineering best practices, and an insight-driven culture.
Education Required:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related field
Formal data engineering training or certification is considered an asset
Qualifications:
10+ years’ experience in data engineering, data architecture, or analytics solution development, including 5+ years providing technical leadership on complex data systems.
Deep understanding of data modeling, data mining, and segmentation techniques.
Hands-on experience with SQL database design and modern data engineering technologies such as Apache Spark, PostgreSQL, and Delta Lake.
Proficiency in scripting/programming languages including SQL and Python (Pyspark/Pandas).
Experience with data-focused DevOps and MLOps tooling and practices (e.g., MLflow).
Experience working with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
Knowledge of data governance and cataloging best practices.
Experience with IoT, event streaming, or time-series databases is an asset.
Familiarity with enterprise data structures (e.g., SAP, ETRM, Genesys, Microsoft Dynamics) is an asset.

Salary: Technical Services Analyst, Level D (Current CUPE rates)
$114,623.96 - $121,805.32 - $128,966.84 - $136,128.36 - $143,289.87
Location: This role will be part of our hybrid (home and office) workforce with office workspace located at ENMAX Place (141 - 50th Avenue SE, Calgary, AB). You will have the opportunity to work from home on Mondays and Fridays and will be in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
