We are hiring a Senior Data Engineer
Hybrid working model - Novi Sad or Belgrade office
Role Description:
The Senior Data Engineer leads the technical design and delivery of data pipelines, transformations, and data models within the platform. This is a hands-on technical leadership role responsible not only for building core platform components, but for setting and upholding the engineering standards the rest of the team works within. The Senior Data Engineer is the primary technical authority within the data engineering squad.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and implement data ingestion, transformation, and serving pipelines across the medallion architecture
Define canonical data models aligned to business domains, including conformed dimensions, business entities, and shared reference data
Design for SCD Type 2 and other slowly changing dimension patterns where required
Ensure pipeline architecture is scalable, maintainable, and cost-efficient
Build and maintain production-grade pipelines using Databricks tooling (Autoloader, Delta Live Tables, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog)
Implement data quality rules, validation frameworks, and testing patterns at each layer
Own performance tuning - latency, partitioning, compute efficiency, and freshness SLAs
Ensure pipelines are reliable through correct handling of retries, idempotency, and failure modes
Define and enforce coding standards, naming conventions, and architectural patterns for the squad
Lead code reviews and ensure pull requests meet quality and documentation standards
Ensure all platform assets are registered, governed, and access-controlled through Unity Catalog
Work with data governance and security teams to ensure compliance with platform and regulatory requirements
Work with the Data Consultant (Modeller) to ensure pipelines correctly implement data definitions, lineage, and business rules
Partner with the Integrations Engineer to ensure platform outputs are correctly structured for API consumption
Engage with product, application, and architecture teams to align on requirements, contracts, and delivery priorities
Support delivery of production-ready, well-tested pipelines across ingestion, transformation, and serving layers
Your Profile:
6–10+ years of data engineering experience, including technical leadership responsibilities
Strong SQL skills and deep experience with ETL/ELT pipeline development at scale
Hands-on expertise with Databricks - Autoloader, Delta Live Tables, Delta Lake, and Unity Catalog
Proven experience with Lakehouse and medallion architecture patterns
Strong data modelling skills - dimensional, entity-based, SCD handling
Experience building or contributing to data products consumed via API or analytics tooling
Understanding of data governance, access control, and regulated data environments
Proven ability to define engineering standards, mentor engineers, and collaborate effectively in fast-paced environments
