Senior Data Analyst

Job Description Summary

Collaborates with business owners, data scientists, and data engineers to identify, prioritize and formulate relevant data analysis efforts. Collects, integrates, cleans, and refines data. Conducts Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) and inferential statistical analysis, communicates results and implications to team members and internal customers. Produces high-quality quantitative analyses. Creates user-friendly reports and dashboards and trains customers in their interpretation and use. Provides leadership and mentorship to data analysts and data scientists. Establishes and executes best practices.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Senior Data Analysts are distinguished from Data Analyst IIs by their experience, leadership, and excellent communication skills. Responsible for mentoring data analysts and establishing best practices, as well as performing complex data analytics and designing experiments, conducting inferential statistical analysis, or building data models and pipelines. Operates with a sound understanding of Credit Union business operations, products, and compliance requirements. Assists with the development of other Data Analysts and be a source of domain knowledge for the whole data team.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts descriptive and exploratory analytics, understanding and communicating what a dataset can tell us about, including, but not limited to; membership, products, processes, competition, the economic environment, and marketing promotions.

  • Creates data models, reports, visualizations and dashboards to answer business questions. Trains business customers on their interpretation and use.

  • Designs, builds, and maintains scalable and efficient data pipelines to transform data from various sources in our analytics platform

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs, identify data sources, and develop data-driven solutions to complex problems.

  • Assesses data cleanliness and cleans data, ensuring accuracy, completeness, reliability, relevance and timeliness.

  • Coordinate with IT, data engineering, and line of business teams to resolve data accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.

  • Mentor and provide technical and domain guidance to data analysts and data scientists.

  • Establish and adhere to best practices in reporting and analysis: data integrity, test design, analysis, validation to ensure the team is providing exceptional quality work and is continuously gaining everyone's trust.

  • Implement and consistently practice the highest standards of accuracy regarding data collection, calculations, and presentation.

  • Continuously builds domain expertise in various credit union subject areas, including, but not limited to; marketing, underwriting, fraud, and servicing channels.

  • Completes all required training programs to maintain a current knowledge applicable to assigned duties and responsibilities, including regulatory compliance requirements.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Minimum Qualifications

To perform this job satisfactorily, an employee must be able to carry out each essential duty competently. The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, skills and abilities required.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Education Requirements

  • Required - 4 Year / Bachelors Degree - Business Analytics, Economics, Statistics, Finance, or closely related field.

Experience Requirement

  • Required - 5 Years - Responsible business domain experience in data analytics - preferably analytical experience in consumer finance.

  • Required - Experience with various data/analytical tools (e.g., Excel, SQL, PowerBI, Tableau, Snowflake).

  • Required - Experience with programming languages (e.g. Python, R) for data cleaning and exploratory or descriptive data analysis.

  • Preferred - Experience with experimental design and inferential statistics.

  • Preferred - Experience with data modeling and transformation tools (e.g. dbt).

  • Preferred - Experience with query performance optimization in a cloud data warehouse.

  • Preferred - Experience with predictive modeling, distributed computing (e.g. Apache Spark, pySpark, Snowpark) and working and collaborating in production environment.

  • Strong analytical aptitude with a driving curiosity to identify, formulate, and solve problems.

  • Ability to assess cost trade-offs related to decision-making and further data acquisition/analysis in a business context.

  • Comfortable deriving business implications from data/analyses and making recommendations for business action--even in the absence of complete information.

  • Desire and ability to continuously learn new analytical methods and tools in order to have increasing impact on business results.

  • Ability to train and develop others.

  • Set priorities and manage one’s own time effectively.

  • Learn and apply information, on a wide range of Credit Union products, services and regulatory compliance requirements, in order to assess member situations and develop solutions

  • Communicate in a professional manner and deliver information clearly and effectively. Actively listen to questions, opinions and ideas of others. Use tact and diplomacy in sensitive and confidential situations.

  • Use correct English including spelling, grammar and punctuation.

  • Understand and follow written and oral instructions.
