About the Role:

As a Senior Data Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in creating advanced analytics and insights to drive better experiences of our platforms.  By delivering clear, data-driven narratives, you will support the team’s mission to provide data experiences that underpin Elsevier’s strategic objectives.  Your analytical expertise will help identify data pipeline and data quality issues, cost trends, and operational efficiency opportunities. Your areas of focus will be to deliver analysis and reporting on the performance, usage and costs of the various ETL tools and processes in order to drive better understanding and decision making in the stakeholder and client audiences.

Responsibilities:-

  • Capture and document accurate user requirements, identify data needs, create metrics, and build data visualizations that deliver actionable insights and delight our users. 

  • Develop data pipelines to gather and combine data from all the source systems that are relevant to answering specific business questions and problems. 

  • Champion and evangelise insight solutions developed, in partnership with the platform owner, to promote user adoption and maximise impact. 

  • Lead technical analytics projects by structuring work into modular activities, with clear deliverables and timelines, and manage stakeholders’ expectations accordingly. 

  • Produce moderate ad hoc data counts, stats, and examples as required.

  • Mentor less senior data engineers on methodologies and optimization techniques.

  • All other duties as assigned.


Requirements:-

  • 5+ years’ experience in data management area with an analytical competencies demonstrated.

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Engineering/Computer Science preferred but not required); or equivalent experience required.

  • Strong proficiency with development languages such as SQL, UNIX, Linux, XML, ECL, HPCC, SALT.

  • Strong proficiency with various data types and formats including, but not limited to: XML, flat files, delimited, etc.

  • Proven expertise in data analysis and data platforms, with the ability to independently collect, process, and present complex datasets in a clear and actionable manner.

  • Excellent proofreading skills to see how data and facts can be linked together to create more meaningful conclusions.

  • Solid foundational knowledge of data pipeline technologies, including data platforms, ETL tools, and data visualisation software (Tableau is the preferred tool), with the adaptability to quickly learn new tools and technologies.

  • Strong ability and desire to learn new processes, tools, and technologies.

  • Good problem solving and research skills.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively understand user needs, and convey technical information to non-technical audiences.

  • Strong data storytelling skills, capable of translating quantitative findings into compelling and cohesive narratives that inform and influence stakeholders.

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment to collaboratively achieve shared objectives and outcomes.

  • Practical knowledge of agile practices, with an ability to manage multiple priorities and multiple stakeholders.

  • Experience with the data stack used (Snowflake, Tableau, dbt Cloud, Fivetran, Astronomer) is desirable but not mandatory.
