Legal provides legal solutions that protect Deutsche Bank’s integrity and reputation, manage legal risk, and enable safe, compliant and sustainable business activity. The function partners closely with Risk, Compliance, Audit, Technology and other control functions to support an integrated Group‑wide risk management framework.

The Senior Counsel to the General Counsel supports the Global General Counsel on priority legal, regulatory and governance topics and the steering of high‑impact legal matters. The role helps set clear priorities, structures complex issues and translates them into concise, decision‑ready executive options - enabling sound judgement and pace in senior decision‑making.

Your key responsibilities

  • Close strategic advisory partnership with the Global General Counsel on material legal, regulatory and governance matters

  • Co‑steering, prioritisation and escalation of sensitive and cross‑jurisdictional legal cases

  • Preparation of decision papers, executive briefings, talking points and official positions for the General Counsel and senior management

  • Translation of complex regulatory, litigation and cross‑border issues into concise, decision‑ready executive options

  • End‑to‑end ownership of priority topics, structuring ambiguity, driving progress and ensuring disciplined follow‑through

  • Orchestration of the General Counsel’s agendas, briefings, and follow‑ups across senior committees and governance forums

  • Acting as strategic filter and sounding board, determining what requires General Counsel attention, escalation or delegation

  • Central interface across Legal leadership, Risk, Compliance and other key control functions to ensure alignment

  • Contribution to shaping a high‑performance, future‑ready Legal function

Your skills and experiences

  • Outstanding academic background and extensive relevant professional experience as a fully qualified lawyer with experience in banking, financial services, consultancy or top‑tier law firm environments

  • Solid background in banking regulation, litigation, governance, supervisory matters and complex cross‑border issues

  • Strong analytical capabilities and proven ability to structure ambiguity and synthesise complex topics into executive‑level recommendations

  • Excellent drafting and communication skills with a clear, concise and decision‑oriented style

  • Strong judgement, integrity and confidence in operating with senior stakeholders

  • Fluent executive communication skills in German and English
