About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated lawyer to join our dynamic legal team in Bangkok. This would suit a litigator, regulatory lawyer or commercial/in-house lawyer with significant litigation/disputes and regulatory experience, who is keen to cover a broad area of work across numerous business areas/funnels and multiple jurisdictions.  

The successful candidate will dedicate approximately 40% of their time to litigation/disputes work and regulatory touchpoints across the business (including accommodations, flights, customer services and supply), and around 30% to general commercial legal matters (including B2B). The remaining time will be focused on supporting general regulatory issues, consumer law matters, front-end display issues, technology and licensing law requirements, competition law and providing general commercial legal support. This role requires excellent litigation and regulatory response experience, particularly in APAC, as well as a good knowledge of consumer law and general commercial/regulatory legal matters. Experience in competition law, litigation/disputes and working on commercial/B2B matters in a technology business would be advantageous. 

Key Responsibilities

Litigation and Regulatory - Pan Funnels/Business Focus (70%): 

  • Litigation support: Assist in the preparation and management of litigation and dispute resolution matters across the world and across different areas of the business (including accommodation, flights, B2B, customer services and general supply matters).  

  • Regulatory inquiries/investigations: Dealing with regulatory inquiries and investigations across a number of different business areas including accommodations, customer services group, flights and supply.   

  • Commercial matters: Managing a wide range of general commercial legal matters, with a focus on the B2B space, including potential disputes/litigation, commercial and regulatory work. This will make up approximately 30% of the role.  

  • Disputes with business partners: managing disputes with partners in a proactive and commercial manner, working closely with relevant business teams.  

  • Regulatory compliance: Monitor and interpret key impactful changes relating to a variety of different areas including supply of inventory, front-end requirements and B2B projects.  

  • Risk management: Proactively identify and mitigate legal risks associated with the business covering a wide array of regulatory and business areas. Work through innovative risk mitigation strategies with business partners, with appropriate escalations.  

  • Training and education: Help to develop and deliver training programs for staff on relevant regulatory compliance requirements.  

Consumer Law and General Commercial Support (30%): 

  • Advisory services: Provide expert legal advice on consumer laws, property display requirements, B2B regulations and licensing/technology laws to ensure compliance with local regulations. In addition, provide general commercial legal advice in relation to commercial matters.   

  • Policy development: Assist in the development and implementation of company policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance and best practices. 

  • Legal research: Conduct legal research on various commercial/regulatory law issues and provide actionable advice and strategy to various business areas with a particular focus on B2B. 

  • Assist with competition law issues (as needed): : Be ready to assist with competition law issues and general regulatory matters on an ad-hoc basis. Candidates without the necessary experience should be willing to learn.    

  • Contract management (as needed): Draft, review, and negotiate a commercial contracts, including supplier agreements, service contracts, partnership agreements together with the provision of general commercial contracts advice.  

Core Skills and Requirements

  • Legal professional with 5-9+ years PQE with significant disputes/litigation experience and significant APAC wide regulatory experience. EU experience would be beneficial as would a legal qualification in a common law jurisdiction. 

  • Able to provide well-reasoned, practical legal advice on a wide range of matters, with a specific focus on litigation/dispute resolution, commercial contracting (including B2B) matters, regulatory interventions, consumer law and general commercial matters.  

  • Able to communicate effectively with key business teams, a global Legal team and external counsel across multiple jurisdictions.  

  • Self-starter who can take forward matters with appropriate supervision. 

  • Contribute to new policies, procedures, training, and templates with the goal of fostering efficiency and compliance. 

  • Being comfortable working “outside your lane” and willing to take on new and novel workstreams/matters.  

Additional Skills  

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an innate curiosity to learn.  

  • Excellent academic credentials, experience working in top-tier law firm and preferably experience working in-house at an MNC.  

  • Experience of EU Digital Services Act would be an advantage. 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a large diverse team. 

  • A demonstrated can-do, roll up your sleeves, collaborative approach, coupled with a strong work ethic and sound judgment.  

  • Excellent communication and legal drafting skills (verbal and written) in English.  

  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail. 

  • Experience with travel industry/technology/fintech a plus. 

  • High level of integrity and professional ethics. 

  • Low ego and high integrity.
