Role Overview

Jeeves is looking for Senior Counsel in Mexico to serve as the primary legal partner for our Mexican operations. You will own the full legal function locally, from navigating Mexico's complex financial regulatory landscape to structuring and negotiating the commercial agreements that underpin our growth. This is a high-impact, autonomous role for a lawyer who thrives at the intersection of fintech innovation and rigorous regulatory compliance, and who can find the "yes" while keeping Jeeves protected.

Key Responsibilities
  • Fintech & Banking: Own legal and compliance matters across Jeeves' credit and payments operations in Mexico. Monitor regulatory developments and advise management on emerging risks and opportunities.
  • Regulatory & Compliance: Counsel the business on Mexican financial regulations, with emphasis on SOFOMs, SOFIPOs, and the broader fintech and payments regulatory framework.
  • Commercial & Drafting: Draft, review, and negotiate corporate and commercial agreements across the business, including credit, vendor, and day-to-day contracts.
  • Cross-functional Partnership: Serve as the go-to legal advisor for product, commercial, and compliance teams. This is an in-office role with high cross-team visibility.
  • Risk & Governance: Proactively identify legal risks — including credit and collateral exposure — and manage corporate governance, filings, and policy development.
  • General Legal: Cover privacy, AML/CFT, tax, collections, and marketing/product review. Stay current and nimble on emerging areas including AI and stablecoin in financial services.
Requirements
  • Experience: At least 7+ years of law firm or in-house counsel experience, with a focus on fintech, banking, or corporate law. 2-4 years of experience working with technology startups, preferably at an early-stage financial technology company.
  • Regulatory Expertise: Deep knowledge and experience of SOFOM and SOFIPO regulations (e.g. understanding CNBV, ConDUSEF and other governing bodies and their requirements).
  • General Corporate:  Expertise in corporate law, with experience advising on vendor contracts, customer contracts, and commercial matters, cross-border group structures, and general company administration. Experience in Colombia and LATAM at large is strongly preferred.
  • Drafting & Negotiation: Strong drafting, negotiating, and advising skills, coupled with business acumen, particularly with respect to cross-functional teams, and ability to negotiate and independently drive a contract process.
  • Language: Full professional fluency in Spanish and English required.
  • Mindset: Solutions-oriented and pragmatic — you give clear, business-friendly guidance and move fast without cutting corners.
