GENERAL FUNCTION:

Attorney for one or more divisions, subsidiaries, or business lines of the Bancorp concentrating on a particular field of practice.


Responsible and accountable for risk by openly exchanging ideas and opinions, elevating concerns, and following policies and procedures as defined. Accountable for always doing the right thing for customers and colleagues and ensuring that actions and behaviors drive a positive customer experience. Operates within the Bank’s risk appetite by identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks of all types.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for legal matters affecting the Divisions represented, including contracts, litigation, transactions, regulatory matters, and legal research.
  • Provide legal support across a broad range of consumer legal and regulatory areas, including:
  • Retail Banking Support
  • Consumer Deposit Products
  • Private Bank Deposit Products
  • Retail Operations
  • Dispute Resolution
  • Non Mortgage Consumer Lending
  • Mortgage Origination and Servicing
  • Fair Lending and Responsible Banking
  • Fair Credit Reporting
  • Real Estate Secured Consumer Products
  • Consumer Collections / Legal Operations Support
  • Serve as the primary legal owner for assigned consumer products and regulatory domains.
  • Own the legal risk posture for supported consumer businesses, including identification, escalation, and mitigation of material legal and regulatory risks.
  • Act as a single point of accountability for complex consumer legal matters.
  • Coordinate with Legal, Compliance, Risk, and business partners as appropriate.
  • Provide independent legal judgment on matters with significant regulatory, reputational, or customer impact.
  • Maintain ownership of regulatory issue management within assigned areas, including examinations, inquiries, and remediation efforts.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience preferred.
  • J.D. required.
  • Admission to a state bar.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to interface successfully with senior management using diplomacy.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Strong knowledge of the areas of expertise including technical knowledge.
  • Strong issue spotting, risk assessment, and problem solving skills.
  • Extensive research and analytical skills.
  • Team building, leadership skills.

The base salary for this position is reflective of the range of salary levels for all roles within this pay grade across the U.S. Individual salaries within this range will vary based on factors such as role, relevant skillset, relevant experience, education and geographic location. In addition to the base salary, this role is eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan, with any such payment based upon company, line of business and/or individual performance.
