About the role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Corporate Lawyer to join our legal team. In this role, you will provide critical legal support to our Energy Assets Business Unit, focusing on AGL’s diverse portfolio of power generation and gas assets. You will work closely with the Group Counsel – Energy Assets and the General Manager Legal to align legal support with business strategies and objectives.


This is permanent full-time role, preferably based in Melbourne (but open to Sydney candidates also).
 

What you’ll be doing
 

  • Work closely with key internal stakeholders to provide a broad range of legal support across the  Energy Assets remit, focusing on operations, asset management, energy industry transition and site rehabilitation.
  • Draft and negotiate complex commercial contracts, including EPC (and other project delivery contracts), O&M agreements, services and supply agreements.
  • Support Energy Assets by advising on contract interpretation and administration issues and disputes.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships and influence within the business, applying internal context to all legal advice to support achievement of business imperatives and to protect AGL's legal position.
  • Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the quality and efficiency of legal services.
  • Build expertise across the team’s scope and manage relationships with external counsel.
  • Manage legal risks, provide strategic advice on regulatory impacts, and facilitate efficient group legal operations.


What you’ll bring to the table
 

  • 7+ years post-qualification experience in private practice, other corporate legal role , with expertise in energy & resources, construction, infrastructure, corporate law, M&A or property.
  • Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor degree and admitted to practice in the applicable Australian jurisdiction.
  • Proven experience in leading complex legal matters and commercial contract negotiations.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the capability to convey complex legal concepts clearly.
  • Ability to effectively manage stakeholder relationships and influence senior leaders.
  • Lead business change in response to changes in the regulatory environment.
