About the role | He Aha Te Tūranga

As the Senior Corporate Counsel & Company Secretary, you will provide strategic legal and governance support for the Board and senior leaders of nib’s New Zealand operations and ensure  frameworks and practices meet organisational needs and regulatory standards. You will also manage the company secretariat function for New Zealand and be a key contact for New Zealand based directors, with support from nib’s Group company secretariat.

A key responsibility is maintaining strong relationships with New Zealand regulators. The role also delivers legal services across the New Zealand entities, advising the Board and senior leaders on governance and legal matters to support best practice decision making.

About you | Ko Wai Koe 

The ideal candidate brings more than ten years of post qualification experience, including substantial senior level practice as a senior associate in a major law firm or an equivalent corporate legal role.

You have a strong understanding of the legal framework governing health and life insurance businesses in New Zealand, with well developed knowledge of the regulatory and governance environment that shapes industry operations.

Financial services industry experience is essential for this role, with insurance industry experience considered highly desirable.

We’re looking for:

  • Law degree and holds, or is qualified to hold, a New Zealand practising certificate (prerequisite)

  • Previous company secretarial experience (desirable)

  • Proven senior relationship management experience

  • Previous experience in dealing with and managing relationships with a Board

  • Sound legal knowledge including corporate and regulatory awareness

  • Ability to act confidentially and utilise utmost discretion in dealings
