About Us:

We are seeking a Principal Hardware Quality Engineer with hands-on hardware quality experience to become a key part of Operations Quality – Continuous Improvement Team. Here at Raytheon, our Operations Quality Continuous Improvement Team assures product and process quality with an emphasis on Product Compliance, Customer Satisfaction and Continuous Improvement.

You will be a key player working with leaders in Operations, Quality, Program Management, and Engineering to solve problems & drive improvements on our nation’s most advanced defense systems. You will be a member of a trusted, high-impact team: embedded within programs and integrated into the factory, this team leverages CORE, APQP, and RCCA principles to elevate quality and deliver measurable results.

What you will do:

  • Baseline factory metrics (Scrap, Rework, FPY, TUH, etc.), identify top drivers, forecast future demand for top drivers and identify areas of opportunity for improvement.
  • Engage MFG DPT teams to ensure alignment on top priorities (using baseline data and future forecast) to drive containment, Root Cause Analysis and associated Corrective Action Implementation.
  • Perform process walks, operator observations, and lead MFG team discussions to drive process enhancements to reduce variation.
  • Help drive standardized data entry to improve data analysis cycle time.
  • Lead/Drive Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) initiatives (PFMEA, control Plans, SPC, etc.) using baseline metrics and future demand.
  • Calculate Return on Investment (ROI) and get alignment from Program and MFG teams for identified CI project opportunities.
  • Perform verification and validation of improvements to understand effectiveness.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements to be leveraged across similar process/assemblies as well as other programs.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) or other technical field of study and a minimum of five (5) years related Quality Engineering experience.
  • Manufacturing process experience in one of the following: (assembly, inspection, test)
  • Experience in identifying root cause and initiating/implementing effective short-term and long-term corrective actions.
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with other functions, customers, suppliers, and partners (both internal and external to Raytheon)
  • Experience with using Quality metrics to drive true root cause and long-term corrective action, and in the identification/institution of perceptive verifications.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Value:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of key process characteristics and ability to implement effective process control techniques. 
  • Motivated self-starter and ability to influence others in a cross functional organization
  • Strong familiarity with ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 quality management systems
  • CORE, Six Sigma, Shainin Red X, ASQ Certifications
  • Proficient in the use of pareto analysis, cause/effect diagrams, process mapping
  • Experienced in Product/Process Failure Modes & Affects Analysis, Regression Analysis, and APQP / AS9145
  • Knowledge of Measurement System Analysis and Design of Experiments
  • Able to facilitate cross-functional teams in systematic improvement activities (e.g. 6-sigma, lean manufacturing)
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience interpreting drawings, work instructions, Bill of Materials (BOMs), consumable materials control, process disciplines and tool control.
  • Understanding of MRP and Shop Floor Management Tools (PRISM (SAP), CMES) 
  • Existing US DoD Secret (or higher) clearance

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
