About Skylight

Skylight is a digital consultancy using design and technology to help government agencies deliver better public services.

We’re at the forefront of a civic movement to reinvent how all levels of government serve families, patients, and many others in today's digital world.

The work we do matters.

About the job

At Skylight, content designers work on cross-functional teams to strategize and advocate for user-centered content practices, plain language, and inclusivity, all while delivering on business objectives. The work can range from a standalone piece of content, to supporting an end-to-end service journey. Content designers also help design content governance strategies and workflows in a user-centered context.

As a Content Designer, Operations Enablement, you will design and steward the content systems that support Skylight’s internal operations. This role goes beyond documentation: it requires understanding workflows end-to-end, identifying where clarity breaks down, and bringing forward recommendations that improve adoption, reduce operational friction, and support leadership decision-making.

What you’ll do

  • Translate operational workflows, policies, and system changes into clear, usable content
  • Design and maintain documentation, templates, and guidance across internal systems
  • Ensure documentation is organized, searchable, and structured for reuse and AI-enabled workflows
  • Support change control by reviewing operational changes for clarity, usability, and experience impact
  • Coordinate operational communications for rollouts and updates
  • Facilitate walkthroughs, reviews, and working sessions to support alignment and adoption
  • Identify recurring clarity, adoption, or usability issues and surface them with proposed recommendations
  • Maintain content standards, templates, and governance practices
  • Partner with operations and delivery teams to ensure content reflects real-world use
  • Contribute to long-term content governance and sustainability

What we’re looking for

Minimum qualifications

  • Strong content design, writing, and editing skills focused on clarity, structure, and usability
  • Ability to understand complex workflows and translate them into actionable guidance
  • Systems thinking — understanding how content supports decisions, workflows, and outcomes
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and high quality standards in complex, evolving systems
  • Ability to collaborate across operations, delivery, compliance, and leadership partners
  • Portfolio demonstrating operational, product, or service content design work
  • Ability to work successfully within a professional services environment (e.g., can communicate effectively with clients)
  • Passionate about creating better public outcomes through great government services
  • A mindset and work approach that aligns with our core values

Nice-to-have qualifications

  • Familiarity with change management, rollout communications, or governance practices
  • Experience with tools like Notion, Coda, Airtable, or Google Workspace
  • Exposure to service design or operations design practices
  • Experience with government contract documentation or proposal support
  • Prior experience working in the civic tech space
  • Experience working in a remote-team environment

Don’t meet 100% of the criteria but think you can do the job? We’d love to chat anyway! We’re on a mission to build diverse teams, and studies have shown that women and marginalized folks are less likely to apply to jobs if they don’t check every box.
