Senior Consultant, Enterprise AI Governance – Regional Lead

What You’ll Be Doing

The Enterprise AI Governance Office (AIGO) within the Enterprise Advanced Analytics and AI Hub at CIBC is the team responsible for ensuring that all AI activities in CIBC are governed in accordance with the Enterprise AI Framework and its associated processes and standards. AIGO leads the way within the organization in developing processes, standards, guidance, and best practices for effectively managing AI related risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.

This position reporting to the Senior Director, Enterprise AI Governance Office (AIGO), coordinates the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of artificial intelligence (AI) governance and related technology processes and policies for CIBC’s Capital Markets, Wealth Management, and other business operations in the European Union, UK, and Asia-Pacific (including Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Japan, and Australia). This role will help ensure that all AI​ solutions impacting these regions comply with CIBC's Enterprise AI Framework and regional laws and regulations, enabling responsible AI adoption across the regions. Key responsibilities include conducting and reviewing risk assessments for AI solutions, maintaining an accurate regional AI inventory, supporting post-market monitoring, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders in various regions — including regulatory authorities — to ensure compliance and best practices. The role also provides guidance to regional team members and leadership on regional AI governance, policy interpretation, and compliance matters, and acts as a liaison to Head Office in Toronto, Canada.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain regional AI governance supplements to the CIBC Enterprise AI Framework, including the creation and ongoing refinement of policies, standards, and best practices.
  • Conduct and review risk assessments of AI solutions impacting the EU region, UK, and Asia-Pacific, identifying and mitigating regulatory, ethical, legal, and reputational risks.
  • Collaborate with the Enterprise AI Governance Office and AI Solution Owners to ensure compliance with regulatory obligations and support ongoing post-market monitoring of high-risk AI systems.
  • Maintain and update the Enterprise AI Solution Inventory to ensure accuracy, traceability, and regulatory compliance with applicable requirements such as the EU AI Act.
  • Support the Enterprise AIGO Oversight Function for regional compliance, including monitoring and assessing regulatory developments and implementing operational key controls.
  • Advise regional team members and leadership on governance matters, including policy interpretation and compliance, liaising with regional regulatory bodies, and supporting both internal and external examinations.
  • Integrate regional AI governance principles into AI solutions through collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, including third party risk management, technology, legal, model validation, compliance, risk management, human resources, and business teams.
  • Represent regional AI governance at key CIBC enterprise and regional committees and governance forums.
  • Monitor and report on compliance with AI governance requirements, develop and track effectiveness metrics, and communicate complex governance issues clearly to all levels of management and executives.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Champion the responsible and ethical use of AI for solving business problems: Work with business units to understand their AI Governance needs, opportunities, and pain points. Work with risk and control teams to ensure AI related risks are adequately managed. Focus on relationship building and become a trusted partner for AI Governance within the bank. Contribute to the development of thought leadership and related educational resources both within the organization and externally. 
  • Ensure AI Solutions are managed and delivered in a governed manner: Work with AI development, technology, and risk/control/compliance teams on the identification, development, and scaling of best practices, tools and techniques to comply with governance requirements and accelerate CIBC’s leadership in ethical and responsible use of AI. Manage AI-related controls with key partners and assist with developing and tracking key control metrics for AI-related risks and perform on-going reviews to ensure effective controls are implemented
  • Translate research to insights and inform decision making:
    Monitor and report on the latest developments in legislative and regulatory instruments as it pertains to AI Governance. Help ensure that all AI Governance processes and standards are inclusive of the requirements necessary to meet the growing demands and advancements in AI by making amendments or drafting new processes and standards where necessary 
  • Ignite innovation, drive actions: Work as an internal consultant to drive results through the application of "governed" AI solutions. Provide support and help drive adoption of AI Governance across the organization by developing strategy and success metrics. Manage and participate in all AI Governance related bodies and committees.
