Job Summary

The Senior Construction Project Manager (CPM) leads the field execution of NineDot Energy’s Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and other Distributed Energy Resource (DER) projects from the 30% design milestone through construction, commissioning, and turnover. In this role, the CPM owns construction delivery—managing contractors, overseeing field operations, and coordinating with internal teams to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all regulatory standards. Reporting to the Director of Construction, the CPM plays a key role within the Engineering, Planning & Construction (EP&C) team and is ideal for a hands-on project manager who excels at balancing day-to-day field leadership with project tracking and stakeholder coordination.

Responsibilities:

Engineering & Design Coordination

  • Coordinate with Project Engineers and external Engineers of Record (EORs) from 30% design through Issued for Construction (IFC) to ensure constructability and field execution alignment.
  • Support multidisciplinary design reviews at 30% and 60%, raising field-related issues such as access, clearances, and installation constraints for resolution.
  • Provide field-oriented feedback to optimize construction safety, efficiency, and minimize rework (e.g., trenching layout, installation sequencing).
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Planning, Procurement, and Interconnection teams to integrate design inputs, equipment specifications, and site conditions into construction plans.

Construction Execution

  • Manage end-to-end project delivery from readiness and handoff through commissioning and turnover to operations.
  • Confirm field readiness in collaboration with the Planning Manager, ensuring permits, disconnects, and site access are secured before mobilization.
  • Oversee daily contractor and subcontractor activities on-site, ensuring adherence to safety, scope, and quality standards.
  • Direct civil and electrical installation, utility interconnection, inspections, and punch list activities according to project plans and safety protocols.

Schedule, Reporting & Documentation

  • Maintain construction schedules with the Project Controls team, tracking milestones, identifying risks, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Monitor construction budgets, manage contingency spending, and review contractor pay applications, change orders, and supporting documentation.
  • Maintain comprehensive project records, including RFIs, submittals, daily field reports, inspection results, and as-built drawings.
  • Deliver timely project updates through dashboards, meetings, and leadership reports, highlighting risks, accomplishments, and cost or schedule trends.
  • Contribute to lessons learned reviews and continuous improvement of construction execution standards and tools.

Stakeholder Management & Risk Mitigation

  • Serve as the primary on-site contact for utilities (e.g., Con Edison), AHJs (e.g., DOB, FDNY), and property representatives, maintaining professional field relationships.
  • Manage day-to-day coordination and field execution for utility-driven milestones to keep project timelines on track.
  • Proactively communicate field risks across internal stakeholders, including design changes, permitting impacts, and contractor issues, escalating critical concerns to the Director of Construction.
  • Maintain a live risk register for each project and drive mitigation strategies related to cost, schedule, compliance, and safety.
  • Always prioritize safety and regulatory compliance; stop work if unsafe conditions arise and coordinate with EHS or management for resolution.
