Job Description: Senior Compliance Operations Analyst

How does this role contribute to our collective success?

This role supports the Compliance function in maintaining and enhancing a robust compliance framework, providing evidence‑based assurance of compliance with applicable regulatory requirements. Reporting to the Head of Compliance Operations, the role supports the wider Compliance team in delivering high‑quality support to the Heads of Compliance across European legal entities and relevant business stakeholders. The team operates within a cross‑jurisdictional framework, working collaboratively with Compliance colleagues and the wider business.

What will you do in this role?

Support the Head of Compliance Operations with high-quality execution of the following key Compliance Operations activities: 

  • Horizon Scanning & Regulatory Developments:

    • Track and log regulatory change, assess business impact, and coordinate the monthly horizon‑scanning calls.

    • Help to create and maintain a Regulatory Developments Implementation Framework and draft concise updates for the compliance newsletter, committees, and boards.

  • Training & Awareness:

    • Deliver engaging training and awareness initiatives. Run monthly new‑joiner and annual e‑learning refresh, drive completion and analyse results to close knowledge gaps.

    • Keep abreast of training & awareness best practices to implement.

    • Support the management of the e-learning vendor relationship.

  • Regulatory Returns Oversight:

    • Oversee the Regulatory Returns Register covering submissions to Lloyd’s, the CBI, the FCA/PRA, and other bodies. Issue proactive reminders, help resolve timeliness/accuracy issues

    • Help maintain the Procedure and Register to a high standard.

    • Support the business to identify and manage issues with the timeliness or accuracy of submissions.

  • Assurance & Monitoring:

    • Deliver, and support the design of, compliance assurance activities in line with risk appetite, such as dip-checks/quality assurance and deep-dive thematic reviews.

    • Produce clear reports, agree actions with owners, and track closure. Support the annual Compliance Risk Assessment and upkeep of the Assurance Framework.

    • Support employee adherence to key processes (e.g., gifts & hospitality, conflicts of interest) and turn MI into insights.

  • Issues Management:

    • Log, track, and resolve issues to deadline with root‑cause analysis. Aggregate data to surface trends and emerging risks. Support the maintenance of, and adherence to, the Issues Management Procedure.

    • Produce clear, actionable MI reports for senior stakeholders, highlighting trends, risk exposure, and remediation progress and recommend process improvements and control enhancements based on issue analysis.

  • Policies & Processes:

    • Draft, review, and update compliance policies and procedures in line with the Policy Framework. Monitor external developments to keep content current. Ensure required controls are embedded and maintained.

    • Manage the annual policy governance process, coordinating stakeholders across the organisation and support the maintenance of the Policy Framework to ensure it remains up-to-date and effective.

  • Systems & Processes:

    • Assist in maintaining/configuring compliance systems and tools, ensuring data accuracy and process efficiency, including the sanctions referral log

    • Explore AXIS‑approved AI to streamline workflows and keep the Compliance SharePoint Hub current.

  • Compliance Operating Model and Risk Universe

    • Maintain—and ensure adherence to—the Compliance Operating Model and Risk Universe in line with the Three Lines of Defence.

About You:

What you need to have:

  • At least three-to-five years of experience working in the UK/Irish insurance market ideally within a General Insurance Compliance team, with the ability to apply core knowledge of compliance frameworks to deliver on the mandate of the team within the Three Lines of Defence Model.

  • An understanding of how to assess regulatory risks and ensure appropriate controls are in place to manage those risks.

  • Ability to apply knowledge regarding supervisory frameworks and activities across a range of regulators including the FCA, CBI, Lloyd’s of London, Lloyd’s Europe and the PRA.

  • Strong relationship management skills including written and oral communication skills that enable you to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels, including executive leadership.

  • Analytical skills that enable you to extract, understand and communicate core regulatory requirements.

  • Advanced Excel / data skills performing key functions such as lookup and pivot tables to create, maintain and use significant volumes of data in order to extract meaningful and actionable insights.

  • Ability to make proactive decisions, blending both data and judgement, particularly when faced with ambiguity.

  • Ability to work independently to proactively manage your own deliverables and tasks to a high standard and in a timely manner, particularly when faced with changing priorities.

  • Ability to proactively problem-solve by applying analytical skills to identify the best actions to achieve defined outcomes.

  • Ability to independently apply project management skills to a range of projects throughout the project lifecycle, from scoping through to post-implementation review and reporting.

  • Advanced PowerPoint skills to create engaging and meaningful presentations across a range of topics and to a range of different stakeholders.

  • Ability to select and apply appropriate techniques to different assurance and monitoring tasks, with a proven understanding of inherent and residual risk assessment techniques.

What we prefer you to have:

  • Understanding of specialty insurance products with the Lloyd’s of London and Irish insurance markets such as Cyber, Marine, Accident and Health.

  • Foundation-level experience of using SharePoint.

  • Good understanding of risk and control frameworks with an up-to-date understanding of Compliance best practices.

  • Experience creating and delivering high quality training and communication materials to a range of audiences, e.g., through in-person presentations or via Elearning.

  • A foundation-level awareness of Sanctions, to support the wider Compliance team with the management of sanctions queries during peak times.

  • Foundational project management experience with familiarity of frameworks such as Agile.

Role Factors:

In this role, you will typically be required to attend the London office 3 days per week.
