Team Overview

The U.S. Financial Services Legal team supports TransUnion’s Financial Services business by enabling compliant, revenue‑generating customer relationships through practical legal guidance and thoughtful risk management. The team partners closely with Sales, Product, Compliance, and other stakeholders to support the responsible use of consumer data and financial services products. This role reports into the U.S. Financial Services Legal leadership within the Legal organization. This is a hybrid position and involves regular performance of job responsibilities virtually as well as in-person at an assigned TU office location for a minimum of two days a week.

Role Overview and Core Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary legal counsel to designated Sales Vice Presidents and their teams, owning legal support for assigned customer portfolios.
  • Independently manage a portfolio of existing commercial agreements while drafting, reviewing, and negotiating new customer‑facing contracts tied to revenue generation.
  • Support steady weekly sales deal flow, with flexibility to manage periodic spikes in transactional volume.
  • Draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements, including master services agreements, data licenses, amendments, and statements of work.
  • Advise business partners on legal, regulatory, and business risks, including alternative contractual positions and risk trade‑offs.
  • Apply independent judgment on matters involving regulated consumer data, including Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) considerations.
  • Partner closely with Sales, Product, Compliance, and internal subject matter experts to enable deals while managing legal and regulatory risk.
  • Escalate novel, heightened, or sensitive issues appropriately and coordinate with other Legal team members as needed.
  • Monitor relevant legislative, regulatory, and industry developments impacting financial services and commercial contracting.
  • Keep legal leadership informed of material risks, trends, and developments within assigned responsibilities.

Required Knowledge and Experiences

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree and 4 plus years of experience as a practicing attorney, gained in‑house or at a law firm, required to independently handle complex legal matters.
  • Commercial contracting experience in a sales‑supporting or customer‑facing environment, essential for enabling revenue while managing risk.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating complex agreements (e.g., MSAs, data licenses, amendments, SOWs), required for owning customer contracts end‑to‑end.
  • Knowledge of regulated data and financial services or credit‑related products, critical for advising on compliance‑driven business models.
  • Working knowledge of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), required to exercise independent judgment on data use and customer requests with limited supervision.
  • Familiarity with GLBA and ECOA is beneficial and supports broader regulatory issue‑spotting, though not required.

Required Technical Skills

  • Ability to draft, redline, and negotiate complex commercial contracts using standard legal technology and document management tools.
  • Comfort working within high‑volume, deadline‑driven sales environments while managing multiple concurrent matters.

Pay Scale Information:

The U.S. base salary range for this position is $112,500.00 - $187,500 annually. *The salary range for this position reflects a reasonable estimate of the range of compensation for this job. At TransUnion, actual compensation is based on careful consideration of additional factors such as (but not limited to) an individual’s education, training, work experience, job-related skill set, location, and industry knowledge, as well as the scope and responsibilities of the position and market considerations. Regular, fulltime non-sales positions may be eligible to participate in TransUnion’s annual bonus plan. Certain positions may be also eligible for long-term incentives and other payments based on applicable company guidance and plan documents.
