The Opportunity
The Senior Cloud infrastructure Engineer will work out of our Lake Forest, IL location in our Core Diagnostics business unit. We’re empowering smarter medical and economic decision-making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life. Every day, more than 10 million tests are run on Abbott’s diagnostics instruments, providing lab results for millions of people.
What You’ll Work On
Design, develop, deploy, and release Cloud Platform Infrastructure on Microsoft Azure and Kubernetes, leveraging GitOps practices with Helm and Flux CD, and adhering to Agile methodologies.
Build and maintain Platform Infrastructure components using Infrastructure as Code (IaC), including services such as observability, auditing, and other shared platform capabilities.
Create, package, and manage Helm charts for deployment of PaaS and platform infrastructure.
Develop and operate centralized platform services on Azure (e.g., data pipelines, storage solutions, secure file transfer services) using appropriate Azure resources such as ADF, Storage, and SFTP.
Automate application and infrastructure deployment, configuration, and lifecycle management on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) using Flux CD and GitOps workflows across multiple environments (development, test, etc.).
Partner closely with Application Development teams to support platform adoption, provide deployment guidance, and enable application onboarding to Kubernetes environments.
Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines, including build and release workflows using GitHub Actions, supporting containerized workloads (Docker, Kubernetes).
Develop and maintain technical design documentation for cloud infrastructure, integrations, and new platform capabilities; collaborate with Platform Architects during design and implementation.
Perform root cause analysis and troubleshooting related to build, deployment, and runtime issues affecting platform infrastructure and applications.
Participate across the full cloud lifecycle including provisioning, scaling, monitoring, security, and reliability, while optimizing cloud usage and costs through platform design and Azure cost management practices.
Collaborate as an individual contributor within cross‑functional teams to deliver informatics and cloud-based products.
Travel occasionally within the U.S. or internationally as required by project assignments.
Required Qualifications
B.S. in Computer Science or similar engineering discipline including Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering is required.
M.S. in Computer Science or Software Engineering or Electrical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering is preferred.
5+ years of experience with Azure Cloud infrastructure and platform services (e.g., Identity management, VPN, Network Access Controls, Data Pipelines, Storage, Cloud Security etc.) or Master's plus 3 years of experience in same field.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong experience with Kubernetes and Helm Charts.
Azure and/or Kubernetes certification is preferred.
Strong experience with GitOps to manage infrastructure and application configurations.
Experience setting up robust observability and monitoring infrastructure (e.g., Prometheus/ Grafana etc.).
Programming expertise in one or more using C, Go, JavaScript languages.
Expertise in shell scripting is required.
Ability to review infrastructure architecture and implement it based on inputs from Platform Architects.
The candidate must have knowledge in maintaining DevOps tools and technologies such as GitHub, Jenkins and Artifactory.
Familiarity with Administration of Atlassian tool suite for Issue management (Jira) & Knowledge management (Confluence), as well as Requirements management tools such as JAMA is a plus.
Familiarity with Data Privacy Practices (e.g., GDPR) across cloud regions is a plus.
Familiarity with AWS is a plus.

The base pay for this position is
$78,000.00 – $156,000.00In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
