Senior Cloud DBA, Actimize

So, what’s the role all about?

Join our Cloud Operations team to provide 24/7 mission-critical support for our global customer environments. As a Senior Cloud DBA, you will design, automate, and optimize our distributed database architecture, leveraging MySQL, Postgres, MongoDB and Amazon RDS. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring high availability, scaling infrastructure through automation, and collaborating with Engineering to evolve our data models, support application development and data analytics. You will also be responsible for performing security and maintenance releases.

How will you make an impact?  

• Database Engineering: Design and implement high-availability database architectures using MySQL and across Multi-AZ environments using Amazon RDS (PostgreSQL) and MongoDB. 

• Operational Excellence: Manage database replication, automated backups, and disaster recovery (DR) protocols to meet strict RPO/RTO targets. 

• Performance Optimization: Use Amazon CloudWatch and Enhanced Monitoring and other tools to tune query performance, memory allocation, and I/O throughput. 

• Automation & IaC: Develop automation scripts using the AWS CLI, Python, or Bash, and manage infrastructure using Terraform. Knowledge of using Salt for configuration management is huge plus. 

• Security & Compliance: Implement fine-grained access control and ensure data protection with AWS KMS encryption at rest and in transit. 

• On-Call rotation: Act as a primary escalation point for critical production incidents involving databases within a rotating 24/7 on-call schedule.  

Have you got what it takes?  

• Experience: 5–8 years of hands-on experience managing production MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB. Proficiency in these databases is essential. 

• Infrastructure as Code: Proven experience using code to provision and manage database resources. 

• Scripting & Tooling: Expert level skill of using SQL query language. Fluency in Python or Bash for automating routine maintenance and operational tasks. 

• Designing and implementing high-availability database features, utilizing various replication and disaster recovery methodologies. 

• Backup and restore databases and keep these backups tested for recovery state. 

• Defining and implementing database management tools across entire database platform to ensure database performance and stability is maximized across the entire organization. 

• Implementing database schema changes in live production environment requiring minimal downtime and zero performance impact. 

• Scaling up and out databases to meet the needs of increased storage and computing capacity. 

• Management of Big data. 

• Familiarity with DDL, DML, NoSQL. 

• Seeking to improve performance, memory and I/O. 

• Linux/Unix Expertise: Advanced knowledge of Linux/Unix internals and OS-level performance tuning for instances running on Amazon EC2. 

• Education: BS in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent professional experience.  

Preferred AWS Certifications  

• AWS Certified Data Engineer – Associate (Focuses on RDS). 

• AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional (Focuses on complex multi-tier architectures). 

• AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional (Focuses on automation and operational alchemy).
