Job Details:
To provide advanced technical design and drafting skills in performing manual or computer-aided drafting and design (CADD) work. Responsible for preparing and organizing complex drawings and drawing trees for mechanical and electrical engineering data for the Advanced Technology Laboratory (ATL).
Time management, organization, and prioritization for timely completion of project tasks.
Work with other staff to achieve project goals and consistency of project documentation.
Assist other staff members in utilizing state of the art CAD tools.
Specification of detailed technical assembly procedure documentation for mechanical and electrical components.
Specification, verification, and procurement of system components.
Assembly, testing, and quality control inspection of electro-mechanical components.
Detailed review of technical drawings and their associated 3D models to ensure they meet all technical specifications and follow relevant standards.
Perform form-fit-function analysis with GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing) in mind.
Detailed design of mechanical and electrical components, assemblies and tools.
Creation and maintenance of library parts for use in assemblies and deliverable documentation.
Advanced drafting of project documentation, drawing packages, and engineer design documentation.
Other related functions as assigned.
HS/GED
Four years of relevant experience.
Demonstrated capability using and applying geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5.
Six months of related technical experience involving product development from conceptualization to manufacturing to final transition/delivery, including design, collaboration, execution, documentation, and revision.
Ability to produce clear, accurate, and easily interpretable documentation, and to quickly and correctly implement corrections to existing documents.
Professional experience interpreting and producing technical drawings per ASME Y14.5.
Ability to work several overlapping projects with various engineering teams.
Ability to work within an environment of rapidly changing priorities, and the ability to prioritize/resolve competing priorities.
Able to work under pressure, accept constructive criticism, and rapidly implement revisions with and without supervision.
Experience writing technical instructions.
Effectively communicate with a varied group of coworker and client personality types.
Ability to efficiently and promptly communicate through multiple channels including email and collaboration/messaging platforms.
Regular and punctual attendance.
Attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to maintain a professional demeanor and work as a team member.
Associate’s degree in Engineering and Computer Aided Design – Mechanical Specialization with 5 years related experience.
Bachelor’s degree in any discipline.
Experience in mechanical design, specification, fabrication and testing of mechanical assemblies, cable harness assemblies, and electronic printed circuit card assemblies.
Knowledge of manual milling, CNC milling and programming, general power tools, and the ability to inspect parts with calipers and micrometers.
Experience using electronic assembly and diagnostic equipment including soldering irons, oscilloscopes and multimeters.
Experience with detailed design and analysis of system hardware and complex mechanical-electrical systems.
Demonstrated ability to interface with machine shops to procure mechanical components based on ARL documentation, and with vendors to procure commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) parts.
