About the team and position

Creating an extraordinary customer experience is at the heart of Carvana. Our goal is to place the customer in control of the car buying experience and infuse honesty and transparency back into the car buying process. The Senior Buyer, Procurement is a key sourcing position that will handle a variety of tactical and strategic tasks including sourcing and managing goods and services that power our ever-growing Inspection and Reconditioning center.  Additional duties of this position include data collection and analysis, assembling and publishing reports and providing support to Category Managers, Specialists and to Management.

 What you’ll be doing

  • Strategic Partnership: Report to the Lead Category Manager and act as a direct liaison for Carvana Inspection Center leadership to address sourcing needs and identify opportunities for Supplier Relationship Management (SRM).
  • Contract Management: Lead the negotiation of favorable renewals and new contracts, partnering closely with the Legal team to ensure seamless drafting and execution.
  • Data & AI Utilization: Leverage MS SQL, Snowflake, and AI coding tools (e.g., Claude, Codex) to compile and analyze procurement data, providing actionable insights through regular reporting.
  • End-to-End Procurement: Own the full PO lifecycle, including vendor onboarding, order acknowledgment, expediting, and payment confirmation.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Maintain proactive communication with internal requesters and stakeholders regarding order status and timelines.
  • Agile Problem Solving: Execute ad-hoc procurement requests for business units currently operating outside the centralized procurement platform.
  • Financial Stewardship: Assist in budget maintenance, ensuring all procurement activities adhere to established financial guidelines.
  • Dispute Resolution: Investigate and resolve invoice discrepancies to ensure accurate and timely vendor payments.
  • Other duties as assigned

 What you should have

  • Experience & Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, or a related field with 5+ years of experience, or 8+ years of professional experience in Procurement or Accounting. An MBA or CPSM certification is a plus.
  • Systems Expertise: Proven experience with Coupa and leading Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems or dedicated e-procurement platforms.
  • Analytical Technical Skills: Proficiency in SQL and Snowflake, with advanced skills in MS Excel for data manipulation and reporting.
  • The "Carvana" Mindset: A genuine curiosity for how things work, paired with a strong "number sense" and an obsession with detail.
  • Operational Agility: The ability to prioritize a complex workload, meet tight deadlines, and solve problems effectively in a fast-paced environment.
