Job Description

The Senior Business Solution Architect is responsible for designing and validating enterprise-scale data and AI solutions across AWS, Snowflake, and Azure. This role goes beyond conceptual architecture — requiring active involvement in engineering prototypes, proof-of-concepts, and reference implementations to ensure designs are practical, scalable, and aligned with business objectives.

The role will shape solution strategy, create decision frameworks and partner with Enterprise Architects and domain-specific architects to socialize designs and gain alignment before transitioning to delivery teams. A critical aspect of this role is embedding security principles such as RBAC, validating implemented solutions against approved designs to prevent drift, and establishing feedback loops for continuous improvement.

Success demands innovation, influence, and adaptability — anticipating technology evolution, driving modernization initiatives, and designing reusable patterns for data products, data platforms, data lakes, business analytics, and Generative AI applications. This position also requires a strong understanding of DevSecOps principles to ensure security, compliance, and automation are integrated into every design decision. Continuous learning and collaboration across architecture communities are key to success.

U.S. Bank is seeking a seasoned Business Intel Architect with business intelligence applications experience to contribute toward the success of our technology initiatives. Provides technical leadership on establishing standards and best practices to install, configure, and use business intelligence applications for the decision support environment. Oversees complex data modeling and advanced project metadata development. Ensures that business rules are applied consistently across the different user interfaces. Develops design specifications and standards for semantic layers and multi-dimensional models for complex Business Intelligence projects across all environments. Consults on training and usage for the business community. Provides support to business users and Business Intelligence developers. Sets and enforces Business Intelligence standards and architecture. Aligns Business Intelligence architecture with enterprise architecture. Selects appropriate Business Intelligence tools, features, and techniques. Creates and updates load processes for complex data models.

Successful applicants will exemplify US Bank's ethical principles of uncompromising integrity, respect for others, accountability for decisions and actions, and good citizenship.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Design

  • Define end-to-end architectures for data ingestion, transformation, storage, governance, and consumption across AWS, Snowflake, and Azure.

  • Establish reusable, scalable, cost-effective patterns (batch/streaming, lakehouse, semantic layers, APIs) that serve multiple data products.

  • Translate business outcomes into designs that meet performance, resiliency, security, and cost objectives.

  • Develop Decision Architecture Review (DAR) matrices with clear options, trade-offs, and recommendations for executive decision-making.

  • Design solution architectures for Generative AI applications leveraging modernized platforms (AWS, Snowflake, Azure).

  • Incorporate DevSecOps principles into architecture for secure, automated deployments and compliance by design.

Hands-On Engineering & Validation

  • Build proofs-of-concept (POCs) and reference implementations to de-risk designs and validate feasibility.

  • Contribute code/configuration (e.g., Python, SQL, orchestration/ELT) and perform performance tuning for large-scale workloads.

  • Validate implemented solutions against approved designs, identify drift, and drive corrective actions.

Collaboration & Influence

  • Partner with Enterprise Architects and domain Solution Architects to socialize designs and ensure alignment with standards and roadmaps.

  • Communicate complex concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences, influence adoption of best practices and reusable patterns.

  • Provide architectural guidance to engineering leads during delivery, ensuring scope, timeline, and quality remain aligned with the design.

Governance, Security & Access

  • Embed Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), encryption, key management, and secure data sharing into architecture as first principles.

  • Ensure solutions comply with data governance, privacy, and audit requirements, support architecture reviews and control checkpoints.

  • Apply DevSecOps best practices for secure CI/CD pipelines, vulnerability scanning, and automated compliance checks.

Continuous Improvement & Learning

  • Establish feedback loops (post-implementation reviews, architecture retros) to improve standards and patterns.

  • Introduce process enhancements that reduce complexity, improve scalability, and accelerate delivery.

  • Commit to continuous learning of evolving cloud, data, AI, and security technologies, share learnings across the architecture community.

Innovation & Thought Leadership

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and the modern data stack; lead experiments and convert proven approaches into platform enhancements.

  • Advocate for modernization initiatives and influence platform/architecture roadmaps with data-driven insights.

  • Mentor engineers and architects; elevate architectural craftsmanship across teams.
