Business Development Manager – Legal Sector

As a Business Development Manager within Convera’s Legal Vertical, you will play a pivotal role in expanding our NAM footprint across the legal sector. Reporting directly to the Global Head of Law Firms, you will identify, engage, and convert new business opportunities with law firms ranging from boutique practices to global partnerships. Your focus will be on developing profitable, long-term relationships by advising senior stakeholders, including Partners, Finance Directors, and CFOs on their international payment workflows, FX requirements, and risk management strategies.

This is a strategic, high-impact individual contributor sales role suited to someone with an entrepreneurial mindset, strong commercial instincts, and a proven track record of winning new business in the FX and payments space. You will operate as a strategic sales leader, owning the full sales cycle from prospecting to implementation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive new business acquisition within the legal sector by identifying, targeting, and converting high-value prospects.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of FX and payments BDM experience to consult on payment solutions, currency exposures, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Build and maintain relationships with senior decision-makers, influencing stakeholders at Partner, Finance Director, and C-suite levels.
  • Execute a strategic portfolio plan to exceed revenue targets and deliver sustainable, profitable growth.
  • Manage a robust pipeline, prioritizing opportunities that align with commercial objectives and sector strategy.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure alignment on value proposition, onboarding, and client delivery.
  • Ensure a seamless client experience from first engagement through to handover with account management.
  • Represent Convera externally, articulating our value proposition and strengthening our presence within the legal community.
  • Understand client operating models, risks, and opportunities to support effective implementation and early revenue generation.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 3–5 years of proven success in FX and payments business development, ideally within another FX brokerage or large financial institution.
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently achieve or exceed new business revenue targets.
  • Proven ability to manage a disciplined, high-quality pipeline, with strong forecasting accuracy and prioritization.
  • Strong consultative sales skills with experience navigating complex, multi-stakeholder sales cycles.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to think strategically, act autonomously, and create opportunities in a competitive market.
  • Exceptional negotiation skills and commercial acumen, with the ability to articulate value to senior executives.
  • Experience of onboarding new clients and managing the transition from sales to account management.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, capable of influencing at C-suite level.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Understanding IP practices or legal-sector workflows is advantageous.

Pay Transparency Statement

Convera is committed to pay transparency and equity in accordance with applicable U.S. state and local laws. For this position, the expected base salary range is $100,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year, depending on factors such as experience, qualifications, and geographic location. We use a tiered geographic pay system to ensure fairness across regions. Candidates in high-cost areas may receive higher offers within the posted range.
