Senior Business Analyst - London, Permanent

We’re looking for a Senior Business Analyst to support change initiatives that sit at the heart of the UK’s retail payments infrastructure. In this role, you will work on medium to large change programmes that shape how payments are designed, governed and delivered across Pay.UK.

You will join our Change function at a time when payment systems are evolving to meet new expectations around resilience, scalability and regulation. The benefit for you is clear: you will apply deep business analysis practice to nationally significant systems, working with clear standards, established governance and defined delivery plans. Our scale provides context and stability, while the variety of programmes offers ongoing professional stretch.

This role is well suited to an experienced business analyst who values clarity of purpose, structured delivery and working closely with programme teams, stakeholders and suppliers to turn defined needs into well-evidenced change.

Accountabilities

  • Conduct structured business analysis to define business problems, clarify scope and document requirements for medium to large change initiatives.
  • Translate strategic objectives into clear change options, evaluation criteria and input into initial and full business cases.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to agree clear delivery, testing and acceptance criteria, and to define how benefits will be measured and reported once the change is live.
  • Produce analysis documentation that meets Pay.UK change standards and corporate governance requirements.
  • Work closely with programme and project managers to build and maintain delivery plans, clearly documenting risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies so everyone has a shared view.
  • Provide timely and structured analysis inputs to support project managers at each stage of the project lifecycle, from shaping early scope and options through to delivery readiness and formal closure.
  • Engage with external suppliers and partners to gather inputs and validate requirements where needed.
  • Analyse current payment system processes and change proposals by running structured workshops and interviews with programme teams, policy leads and operations colleagues to clearly define business problems, scope boundaries and success measures.
  • Take part in lessons learned sessions, capture practical insights from completed work, and help turn them into improvements to analysis practice and ways of working across the Change portfolio.
  • Document clear, testable business requirements for medium to large change initiatives, using agreed Pay.UK templates and standards so delivery teams and suppliers can work from a shared understanding.
  • Translate strategic objectives and regulatory drivers into practical change options by comparing costs, risks, benefits and delivery impacts, and by contributing written input to initial and full business cases.
  • Map end to end impacts of proposed changes across systems, processes, data flows and operating models within the UK retail payments landscape, highlighting dependencies and constraints early.
  • Work with stakeholders to define testing approaches, acceptance criteria and benefits measures, ensuring each requirement can be verified and tracked through to delivery and post implementation review.
  • Produce and maintain analysis artefacts such as process models, requirements catalogues, traceability matrices and impact assessments that meet Pay.UK governance and assurance requirements.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Extensive experience delivering business analysis within retail banking, payments or financial services environments.
  • Demonstrated experience working on large programmes and smaller projects across the full delivery lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated capability in requirements definition, option analysis, impact assessment, testing and benefits evaluation within regulated contexts.
  • Experience producing clear, structured business analysis documentation that combines business and technical perspectives.
  • Working knowledge of payments-related regulatory and compliance requirements.
